Increasingly, Rupert Murdoch's purchase of MySpace looks like a kneejerk move that confused the panic with the strategic. Clearly, he's managed to bring this management style to MySpace, whose purchase of MySpace looks exactly the same. As takeovers go, it has all the thought and care of that box of Milky Way grabbed from a Wild Bean Cafe shelf moments before midnight on Valentine's Day. Admittedly,...
Music is too expensive to be free and too free to be expensive on a song-by-song basis, because on-demand music licensing rates are becoming too high for advertising to cover — as shown once again by imeem’s recent sale to MySpace at a heavy discount. This could be a boost to playlist sharing sites because [...]
Some slightly disappointing news this morning from Danny!'s camp. Where Is Danny? , his latest album, is being re-worked for retail release after IMEEM and some writers apparently leaked the advance copy. Leaks aren't new or surprising these days, but it's still frustrating, especially considering this 26-track album represents Danny!'s finest work to date. He shed most of what held him back on previous...
MySpace, rumored to be on the verge of purchasing the free music streaming site imeem, is struggling to keep up with its own payments to music copyright holders, according to a top News Corp executive — a problem that has plagued every other licensed free music service. The digital music doubters could be right with the [...]
MOG has set a launch date for its All Access music streaming service : December 2. That's when you'll be able to sign up for the hands down best music streaming service on the web. If you're willing to pay $5/month, that is. Is it worth it? I'm definitely starting to think so. Partially because of the quality of the product (more on that below), and partially because the free streaming music business...
The "virtual fifth label" is now friends with MySpace. Merlin, an organization that represents independent music companies, is supposed to have signed a deal with the social network that should nicely complement MySpace's existing partnerships with EMI, Sony, Universal, and Warner. Merlin's association with indie artists and late arrival to the music scene (it launched in January of 2007)...
I ain't gonna blow it up but if things go the way they look like they might, cats is gonna be REAL surprised at what label Pill eventually signs to. I might not be known for gossip but I've called some major stories correctly and EARLY in the past and not gotten the credit, so pay attention! Try it before you buy it: Pill - 4075: The Refill Like what you heard? Download The Empire x DJ Skee pres. Pill...
It appears that the time for freemium music services in the US has passed. Earlier this week streaming music site Imeem sold to MySpace for under $10 million dollars while laying off a large number of staff. For a company with all four major record labels signed, more than 15 million uniques a month and well over 5 million tracks in its catalogue, it came as a sobering blow to the industry. While...
MySpace has lost a lot of ground to Facebook over the last few years and, now with its purchase of imeem, hopes to transform itself into an entertainment destination. The music networking site was acquired for between $8-10 million and Wired reports the majority of this is for imeem's key staff to help with MySpace's aforementioned transition. The acquisition represents a significant loss considering...
MySpace has completed the purchase of imeem, which has been rumored since Monday, at a price that could make venture capitalists wary of investing in any startup that requires music licensing. TechCrunch puts the purchase price at just $1 million. Imeem's debt is also being assumed and some assets are not included in the deal, say TechCrunch's sources, including millions of dollars in accounts receivable....
If rumors are to be believed then, MySpace, a unit of media giant News Corp. is firming up its plan to acquire imeem, a free online music service, in a bid to expand its MySpace Music service which allows users to create a profile, and can recommend music to others or find out what they're listening to just like imeem.
IMEEM has been there for almost 5 years but I never tried them before. I often get songs just by googling them from the net, unfortunately, there is rare moment where I can find a song even though I have been looking for hard enough. Recently I find IMEEM - a service where users interact with each other by watching, posting, and sharing content of all digital media types, including blogs, photos, audio,...
