Sure Sign of Twitter Overdose

The thing about online presence and social networking is this: sometimes you get too read too much about someone. Their whereabouts, the music they’re listening, the food they are eating, are posted there on Twitter, and we really couldn’t care less about it. Yet when they’re absent and we haven’t seen any status updates for awhile, we sort of, kind of, miss them. Does it mean...

Long-Term Deficits

Martin Wolf says that although long-term deficits are a problem, it's too early to rein in spending right now: What is needed, instead, are credible fiscal institutions and a road map for tightening that will be implemented, automatically, as and when (but only as and when) the private sector’s spending recovers. Among the things that should be done right now is to put prospective entitlement...

Liz Cheney Pretends This One Michigan Town Would Hate Hosting Gitmo Detainees When Really They Actually Just Hate Liz Cheney

Keep America Safe, Liz Cheney’s exciting new social thing likely named after some mid-career Waugh novel or other, produced a very serious new work of cinéma vérité, for which Liz Cheney managed to round-up like 6 unhappy people and a piano who all make noises indicating their displeasure with Obama’s idea of transferring the Guantanamo [...] Michigan - City Manager...

Fitting in Social Media Marketing within the Agency

For the past few months, I’ve been rethinking what it means to have a Social Media Marketing line in a Strategy-focused Interactive agency. As Alisa Leonard-Hansen from iCrossing says, there’s technically no such thing as Social Media – it is just that the web is social. So where does this leave us: Clients asking about “What [...] Related posts: Social Media Platform: Layout...

Lawyer Complains Of New York Times "Conflict" About Client, Via Twitter

Before you send an angry letter, put it in a drawer overnight. That's the advice thousands of partners have given young lawyers. Of course, email made that advice more difficult to stick to (it's just too easy to hit send) and now, it seems, Twitter is further chipping away at this old adage. When Cassidy & Associates vice chairman Gregg Hartley thought the author of a New York Times story about...

Firm Vice Chairman Uses Twitter to Strike Back at NYT Reporter for Story on Client

Cassidy & Associates vice chairman Gregg Hartley didn't like a critical New York Times story on one of the firm's biggest clients, Equatorial Guinea. So he's hitting back against the reporter using an unusual vehicle: his personal Twitter feed. The reporter's father, a federal judge, presided over a high-profile case involving Equatorial Guinea. Hartley acknowledged that he hadn't verified the...

New Music, New Problems

What is going on with my band right now? Here's the situation: four guys in their early twenties, all with great ability on their instruments, experienced and capable, not too far from London. I was going to live in Australia for a year, but after talking things through, we decided that we wanted to give it a shot, and try to start a career as musicians. We write good songs in a current (if fairly...

In Social Media, Point-of-View Equals ROI

Marketers rushed into social media in 2009 like gunmen into banks, looking for fast cash and a quick way out. Typically, this resulted in a bad experience for all parties and a premature determination that this “social media thing” just doesn’t pay out.

Went to the Mashup Social Media event...

Went to the Mashup Social Media event this afternoon, what followed was a "Pecha Kucha" Session for 4 hours as the presentations came thick and fast - there was a LOT of Media, the Twitterwall made it Social (after a fashion) and boy were we mashed up - it was full! I made some notes on my trusty iPhone as things kept coming, so here are the things that resonated from each talk. Apologies...
