In October 2007, while most tech media attention was focused on the OiNK raid, another large site got police attention. TV-Links, which linked to videos on YouTube-like sites was raided and shutdown, with the admin arrested. A year later, we catch up with the ex-admin of TV-Links for the entire story.

I had a lot of wines open at dinner last night (including 99 Seppelt St Peters and 99 Hardy’s Tintara Shiraz *oink*) and this is the one I chose to drink. It’s a good wine and handy with food. That’s some damn fine coffee you got here in Twin Peaks… and damn good cherry pie… You need [...]

From Grits for Breakfast: Readers may recall that in 2007, the Texas Legislature backed Governor Rick Perry’s much-ballyhooed plan to give more than $100 million in pork barrel grants to border Sheriffs, splitting the funds equally (more than $6 million apiece) among sheriffs in the 16 counties along the border to pay for extra equipment and [...]

A consensus seems to be growing for the next congressional stimulus package to be directed toward local infrastructure projects roads, bridges, highways and the like rather than toward another round of checks for each American.

One year ago today OiNK’s Pink Palace was shut down by police. It’s only appropriate to pour one out for it today. OiNK had been in operation for a little over three years; I had joined exactly one year before it was shut down, invited to the party by CrunchGear alum Vince Veneziani, who’s now kicking [...]

I always loved the idea of last.fm, oink and similar services that essentially allow you to discover new music and listen to lots of your favorites. The only problem is that last.fm mostly only gives you samples and they’ve shut down most of the music torrent trackers. On top of that, Slovenia still doesn’t have [...]

Self-released electronica has had something of a good news day in 2008, with The Flashbulb making news shortly after the demise of Oink by releasing his record Soundtrack to a Vacant Life via private music trackers as a much more profitable stab in the eye of iTunes.

Oink , originally uploaded by spinneyhead . Victoria Street, Grassmarket, Edinburgh. A hog roast roll and green tea are helping me feel human again. Oink does one roast hog a day and server until it's all gone. The roll had a generous portion of succulent meat, good value. The tea cup was a bit small for the price, but I'm not complaining.

John McCain, R-Ariz., has said repeatedly on the campaign trail that he never requested, or received, an earmark in annual appropriations bills during his 22 years in the Senate. My friends, it's just not so. In April 1989, McCain sent a letter to then-Sen. James McClure, R-Idaho, asking the ranking Re-publican on the Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee...

Great russian revolutioner Vladimir Lenin said that cinema is the most important kind of art. Nowadays nothing is changed. Humans all over the world have no idea what happens now in the world of modern painting, literature and even music (let me count Britney and hip hop stars off what music really means). Very few people know the names of great modern writers, artists or musicians. But at the same
