Google started to integrate a Gmail Chat widget in iGoogle 's much-hated navigation sidebar. The page will load even slower and people will have one more reason to complain. If you don't like the chat box, Google recommends to sign out of chat, although you could also change your status to "invisible". Another thing you'll notice in all versions of iGoogle is the integration of Google Suggest in the...

Using OAuth, users do not have to give their passwords to developers. Instead, if a developer wants data from a service, the user enters the [...]

I was playing around with some of the new Google “themes” (as with iGoogle) for GMail and discovered that location is part of the thing: I wonder if Google will use this information (in addition to other methodologies it has) to influence content and/or adds it shows me. The answer right now is probably not. But [...]

See your latest updates on MySpace , read and reply to messages in AOL Mail , and keep track of your Google Book Search Library . These are the first three gadgets on iGoogle to use OAuth , which is a privacy-preserving security standard that defines how a user can give consent for their data on one website to be accessed by another website (or in this case a gadget). iGoogle never sees the user's...

by Michelle Lentz So I opened my Gmail today to find a closable banner across the top, letting me know about themes. Similar to the fun themes you can add to your iGoogle, you can now theme your Gmail. According to the Gmail Blog: Gmail fans have been building unofficial extensions to spice up their inboxes for a [...]

Google just announced that they have added themes to Gmail! They look pretty cool - I especially like the ones that update the time of day/weather like the iGoogle ones do. Of course everyone’s tastes are different, so there is quite a variety and a few I don’t care for. Unfortunately as this is a brand new feature, [...]
