I'm a glutton for punishment I think. I've blogged about this before, but I've been having another crack at getting the wifi to work on my laptop under Ubuntu again. I really can't figure it out. Steve Murray submits: “Connecting Everything” is a perfect company slogan for a company which has been doing just that. Broadcom (BRCM), a semiconductor company based in Irvine, CA, has had explosive growth recently. Many of its products are regarded as parts of the wireless and multi-face future. After a long series of lawsuits between Qualcomm and Broadcom last year, it was determined that Qualcomm was in violation of patents when using certain chipsets and an injunction was issued. A court has found that Qualcomm has been violating that injunction and has ordered Qualcomm to make a payment to Broadcom for profits lost. Ignoring an injunction might be a way to earn you a couple of extra bucks, but you can only get away with it for so long. Last year Qualcomm was banned from selling some 3G chips that were deemed to have infringed on Broadcom’s patents, but they obviously ignored the warning, resulting in the judge finding the company in contempt of violating the injunction, and ordered it to pay the gross profits...

In a move that should at least somewhat restore your faith in the US legal system and corporate accountability, U.S. District Judge James Selna found that Qualcomm violated (more like ignored) a previous injunction that barred the chip-maker from selling 3G chips in the US that infringed on Broadcom’s patents. This most recent ruling [...]
