The Yankees have the resources to take on a greater amount of risk than most teams. A misplaced $5 million might seriously hamper a smaller market team, but the Yankees — and the Red Sox, as evidenced by Brad Penny and John Smoltz — can take on a reclamation project and hope for the best. ... deserves its own post examining the thought process behind the decision as I see it. First up is Chien Ming Wang. Making a decision on him will be one of the Yanks toughest calls this off season. We all know his track record of being a back to back 19 game winner and his propensity to eat up innings and pitch deep into games with a low pitch count. When he’s right, he saves your bullpen...

This is from Ken Davidoff 's Twitter page: Yankees (for now) RHP Chien-Ming Wang's agent Alan Nero says Dr. Andrews cleared Wang to begin throwing on Dec. 1. The quicker he can get himself on a mound the more likely the Yankees are to keep him around. I think it would be wise to do so either way.

What will be done with the starters-turned-relievers? For the most part, general manager Brian Cashman has left all of next year’s questions unanswered until the organizaton’s internal...

From Peter Abraham : Chien-Ming Wang saw Dr. Andrews today, who told him his shoulder was doing "remarkably well." He could be a good rehab sign. Good news. Though I'm not sure exactly what it means in terms of when he can actually start throwing a ball. I guess we'll find out in the coming days.

... Aceves, (Joba) Chamberlain and (Phil) Hughes to come to spring ready to be starters. As for (Chien-Ming) Wang, the Yanks almost certainly will not tender him a contract, which would cost $5 million at the least. Gaudin's FIPS and other statistics show that he might have gotten lucky during his tenure with the Yankees. But he is still very young and certainly has potential; and maybe he does...

... come to spring ready to be starters." Sherman doesn't expect the Yankees to tender a contract to Chien-Ming Wang , but noted that New York might be able to re-sign him to a cheaper, incentive-laden contract since Wang's marketing deals in Taiwan may suffer if he pitches for anyone besides the high-profile Yankees. Sherman ( via Twitter ) reported that Alan Nero, Wang's agent, said that Wang...

Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune has written a pair of new articles. One focuses on the New York Yankees, while the other explores news from around the majors. Here are some of his points: Pitching depth is the Yankees' main priority this offseason. Having Chien-Ming Wang, Joba Chamberlain, and Phil Hughes all healthy and effective would be ideal, but Rogers doesn't think GM Brian Cashman...

SINGAPORE — From a distance, the patch of gray sunflowers glistening under the tropical sun in the middle of large grassy setting is arresting. A small note next to the plastic flowers explains that the art installation, by the Singaporean art collective Vertical Submarine, is a reference to Chien Swee-Teng’s poem about a sunflower plantation owner’s Faustian pact: He gives up his sense of color...
