... which we associate with Anita Baker or even Rosie Gaines. Worth it for this track alone, but Christiane Noll comes up trumps with the intriguing “I’m In Love”. The song’s opening lyrical phrasing and melody are extremely similar to Lalah Hathaway’s “I’m Coming Back” but that is fine by me; one cannot help but hark back to the Gary Taylor...

... dovetail: a wealthy WASP household with Father (Ron Bohmer) and Mother (a beautifully layered Christiane Noll); Tateh, a Jewish immigrant (a splendid Robert Petkoff) feverishly working to make a better life for himself and his young daughter; and a Harlem couple, Sarah (Stephanie Umoh) and musician Coalhouse Walker, Jr. (Quentin Earl Darrington), struggling with a troubled love affair....

It was great to see John Michael Hill, the young actor we saw recently in the excellent Superior Donuts, featured in the New York Times this week. Check out the article about this young star in the making. The Times also gave the new production of Ragtime a strong review , which was good to see. The esteemed Ben Brantley singled out Christiane Noll in the role of Mother just as the CBs...

... their belongings on their backs cross paths with black migrants from the South doing the same. Christiane Noll was a standout for me as Mother, who becomes more confident and independent as her affluent life in New Rochelle, N.Y., with her husband and son is upended. In some ways, I felt like Ragtime was her story. I also enjoyed the performance of Bobby Steggert as the impetuous...

... New Rochelle family who, random white people that they are, don’t even get names: There’s Mother (Christiane Noll), Father (Ron Bohmer) and the Little Boy (Christopher Cox, who adroitly keeps his performance from being too cute). Mother also has a Younger Brother, played by Bobby Steggert, a lad who also just happens to be an explosives expert. The lives of the Family Family become...

... ) on the Lower East Side, a black baby is unearthed in a garden in New Rochelle. Mother (a superb Christiane Noll ) sings “What Kind of Woman,” and takes the child and mother Sarah ( Stephanie Umoh ) in. While ordinary lives are lived this ordinary way, the country is fixated on “the crime of the century,” the passion slaying of architect Stanford White by his lover's husband, and...

In this new Kennedy Center-based production, which opened Sunday, those assets are exploited by a supple cast under Marcia Milgrom Dodge's vibrant direction. The creamy-voiced Christiane Noll provides a warm, elegant anchor as Mother, the upper-class matron who, while her haughty husband is off traipsing the North Pole with real-life explorer , crosses paths with a black couple and a...

... Petkoff as Tateh, the artist; and I was really moved by his performance, especially his duet with Christiane Noll. I'll go back to hear that duet again - it was just beautifully sung and the chemistry between those two: magic! The story about Coalhouse Walker and the Younger Brother was also very well done; I thought Sarah as played by Stephanie Umoh seemed a little fragile and doll-like,...

The revival of the musical Ragtime opened in previews yesterday. Usually the CBs wait to see a show until it's been playing for a while but we took a gamble and saw the show at today's matinée. It is really a lovely show with some wonderful performances. The actor who played Coalhouse- Quentin Earl Darrington- was wonderful and so was the actress who played the mother- Christiane Noll....
