Kirby Arnold talks with Don Wakamatsu. It’s worth reading, but one sentence sticks out: But even long at-bats aren’t necessarily good at-bats. Both Jose Lopez and Adrian Beltre had at-bats when they fouled off several pitches. “There would be an 11-pitch at-bat and a lot of guys would say, ‘Hey, great at-bat. Way to battle,’” Wakamatsu [...] -- This...

Here is the rundown. I can't say that I'm surprised in any way. The Angels' Mike Scioscia got 15 first-place votes out of 28; Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire, who finished second, got six, and the Yankees' Joe Girardi , the third-place finisher, place got four. Don Wakamatsu got two first-place votes and finished tied with Texas's Ron Washington, who got the final first-place vote. Wakamatsu...

Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu sensed before today's AL Manager of the Year Award came down that Mike Scioscia of the Angels would be the winner. Tough to argue, given what that Angels team went through this season, especially early on.

As for Wakamatsu, he orchestrated a 24-game improvement, which is remarkable. And he did it with a team that was in flux much of the year as general manager Jack Zduriencik wisely adjusted the roster. Just as impressively, Wakamatsu completely changed the attitude and atmosphere of a team that was dysfunctional the previous year. By the end of the season, the Mariner clubhouse was like...

Just got off the phone with Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu, who was at the Phoenix airport about to board a plane home to Dallas after watching Mariner prospects in Peoria.

I reached Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu in Peoria, Ariz., where he is watching the M's prospects in the Arizona Fall League. He's flying back to Texas on Friday to watch his son play (wide receiver) in a high school football championship game at the Cowboys' $1.5 billion new stadium.

I just got off the phone with Mariners' manager Don Wakamatsu in Texas. He said he that he had no inkling at the end of the year that Kenji Johjima wouldn't be back.

... a Single-A prospect. Seattle may be the most likely destination, which would reunite Cust with Don Wakamatsu, the Mariners’ manager, who previously worked as Oakland’s bench coach.” Cust could likely be had in a trade for very little or picked up as a free agent if Oakland non-tenders him. Since his breakout season with the A’s in 2007 Cust has been swinging more and more, walking less and...

Mike Scioscia has been named the A.L. Manager of the Year, finishing with 15 of 28 first place votes. Ron Gardenhire and Joe Girardi were second and third, respectively, and Don Wakamatsu and Ron Washington tied for fourth place, with Jim Leyland being the only other manager named (getting two third place votes). Washington and Wakamatsu finishing that far back is a surprise, as the two...

... Runner-up Ron Gardenhire of the Twins got six first-place votes. Joe Girardi of the Yankees, Don Wakamatsu of the Mariners and Ron Washington of the Rangers all got at least one first-place vote, and no manager was named on all 28 ballots (first, second or third place). This is Scioscia's second Manager of the Year award. He also won in 2002 as the Angels won the World Series. This year...
