Down On The Farm?

... the idea of 25% into equities, 25% into bonds, 25% into precious metals and 25% not into cash like Harry Browne but that last 25% into farmland. I've written quite a few times about farmland as a potential investment and while it is intriguing on some level it is difficult to access. Saut mentioned Cresud (CRESY) from Argentina which owns a lot of farmland but also owns a lot of cattle....

Katz’s Principles

Writes Robert Katz: Harry Browne once wrote a book entitled How I Found Freedom in an UnFree World. I never read it, but I have my own suggestions. I believe that if people tried them for a month or so, preferably forever, they may find out that the Government Evil is also unnecessary. 1. Don’t [...]

Breakdown of the Fed's Balance Sheet...Wow, it's Not Pretty!

Let's join monetary expert Terry Coxon for a (comically') detailed look at the Fed's current balance sheet. I'll give you a hint: yikes! I'd rank Coxon as one of the foremost experts on monetary policy and its effects on the economy. You may recall his name from a classic book he co-authored with the great Harry Browne . Coxon concludes that inflation will rule the day, because the Fed's...

Personal Laws à la Star Trek

... that you have to keep on doing stupid stuff in order to be consistent. This is a reflection of Harry Browne’s Previous Investment Trap. Consistency is a vastly overrated virtue, and it is better to admit that you were wrong and stop going in the wrong direction. There is nothing inherently ennobling about hardship. My concept of masculinity long held that a man undertook great and...

Personal Laws, II

... that you have to keep on doing stupid stuff in order to be consistent. This is a reflection of Harry Browne's Previous Investment Trap . Consistency is a vastly overrated virtue, and it is better to admit that you were wrong and stop going in the wrong direction. Not everyone who is on your side is on your side. In a group interpersonal conflict, individuals may choose sides for purely...
