Note: Davis Shines, Mejia Struggles in AFL

The Arizona Fall League came to a close this weekend with the Peoria Javelinas defeating the Phoenix Desert Dogs 5-4 in the AFL title game. Ike Davis finished the AFL season hitting .350 with two home runs and seven RBI, with a .422 on base percentage and a .525 slugging percentage. …he showed real promise this fall [...]

Racap my take on the 1B market...

Since yesterday seemed to be the 1B rumor day, I thought it only be fitting that I try to recap the multiple players available for the position. The Mets are rumored to be looking for a platoon partner for Daniel Murphy at the position, this plan serves two purposes, get a longer look at Murphy at 1B and not block Ike Davis in 2010... I must acknowledge that I don't like the idea, I've seen...

Buzz: The Braves and Adam LaRoche

... in a platoon-type first baseman to split time with Daniel Murphy , because they feel 1B prospect Ike Davis is one year away from the big leagues. …from what i can tell, the Mets will keep in contact with Carlos Delgado this winter, much in the same way the kept in contact with Pedro Martinez last off season, i.e., they’re interested, but he’s not their first choice… …frankly, i still see...

Note: In Case You Missed It, from the Weekend

In case you missed it… The Mets and Braves have shown interest in trading for Rays OF Carl Crawford, according to the St. Petersburgh Times. The Arizona Fall League ended. Ike Davis hit .350, Jenrry Mejia had a 12.56 ERA in 14 innings; Ruben Tejada hit .254; and Reese Havens hit .368 in 10 games while playing [...]

High, Buy Low and Other Unlikely Strategies

... than design, but he also hits into the power alleys for an amazing number of two-base hits. With Ike Davis on the horizon (who also hits from the left side), the Mets actually have some prospect depth at the first sack. Nothing wrong with importing a right-handed platoon guy, but Nick Evans might be more than serviceable. A four-step program to right the Mets ship... 1. LOAD UP ON SOUTHPAWS...

The Trade Market Depends on the Mets

... develop a decent, but not great, system in recent years. Wilmer Flores, Jenrry Mejia, Brad Holt, Ike Davis, Josh Thole, Reese Havens, Juan Uriba, and, yes, even Fernando Martinez all project to be decent to very good players. The problem with the Mets system is that it’s so top heavy. These players are essentially all the Mets have. Any trade the Mets make using their prospects will essentially...

Poll: Carlos Delgado and a One-year Deal

In a post to his blog for the New York Times, Ben Shpigel quotes ‘Captain Obvious,’ and says this off season the Mets hope to acquire another slugger and add a No. 2 starter behind Johan Santana. Shpigel sees 22–year-old 1B Ike Davis as being on a path similar David Wright, who was promoted to Double-A in 2003, then hit [...]

Heyman: on WFAN, about Holliday, Bay, Lackey, etc.

... in a platoon-type first baseman to split time with Daniel Murphy , because they feel 1B prospect Ike Davis is one year away from the big leagues. Francesa said he heard the Mets intend to talk with free-agent 1B-OF Xavier Nady about filling such a role, but Heyman is skeptical of this because, from what he understands, Nady will not be 100 percent healthy and ready for Opening day. Again,...

Final Cashner AFL Start Simply Indefensible

... He threw a shutout top of the 1st, issuing a one-out walk to Daniel Descalso (STL) and allowing an Ike Davis (NYM) two-out single through the box to CF (the ball went off a diving Starlin Castro's glove and trickled into CF, as Castro ranged far behind the 2nd base bag) around a ground out, a strikeout, and a fly out. Cashner should have had an easy 1-2-3 2nd inning, getting an infield pop...
