I too am opposed to guilty pleas arranged at the door of the court, as these often are the result of unethical bargaining. Can Keir Starmer ( Letters , 3 December) tell us in how many such cases was there a reduction in charges or other incentive for the defendant to plead guilty? And where in his core quality standards is a requirement placed on prosecutors, when late guilty pleas are...
