Spacey as Abramoff

Journalistic carnivore Nikki Finke recently posted a pic of Kevin Spacey as disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff in the indie biopic CASINO JACK and well, it's Spacey in a golf cart. This could have just as well been some kinda celebrity golfing tournament where he chose to pair up with Barry Pepper. Or him on vacation with Barry Pepper. You know, that kinda vacation. Awkward,...

IMDb Demotes Writers To "Additional Details"

Nikki Finke is not happy with the Internet Movie Database: Bad enough that free IMDB (not pay IMDB Pro) has grown increasingly unreliable as a source of accurate and up-to-date showbiz info. But I'm suddenly flooded with angry emails complaining about IMDB's latest moronic decision: moving writers down to "Additional Details" so that now only directors and the major cast are...

Before the fireworks

... here. * This is in the category of things I’m glad I didn’t happen to notice. Earlier in the day, Nikki Finke reported that IMDb had shuttled the writing credits for all movies down from just beneath the director to the “below the line” portion of the page, below the cast, down into the land of lowly DPs and production designers and the like (who actually deserve a lot more recognition...

The movie world is a busy place

As Hollywood prepares for an early weekend 4th-of-July weekend (which we’ll be discussing in a commensurately early box-office preview, mañana), things are popping. To wit: * Variety blogger Mike Fleming and Nikki Finke (who is supposedly trying to slow down for just a moment as she retools her site for its new owners and recovers from [...]

Has The Bruno Basher Outed Himself?

Richard Day is quoted in a Movieline EXCLUSIVE today, sounding an awful lot like the phantom e-mailer who got both Sharon Waxman and Nikki Finke to launch hyperbolic competing hypefests about Bruno's "gay problem." In fact, Movieline (and others, including me) mocked the dueling drooling when it happened. But today, using his real name, Richard Day hits some of the same notes,...

George Clooney Packs Up His Warner Bros. Office, Moves To Sony

Nikki Finke is reporting an interesting bit of news: George Clooney and Grant Heslov are ending their production partnership with Warner Bros. and heading across town to set up shop with Sony. Coming just a week after Sony famously shitcanned Steven Soderbergh's Moneyball, this is a surprising move. At Warner Bros. Clooney was able to make the less commercial movies he's favored over...

IMDb's anti-writer bias?

... and who are more responsible than most any other single person for its quality -- the writers. Nikki Finke's got hers all in a bunch over this. Considering her connections with the and her general attitude that everything about Hollywood that doesn't originate inLos Angeles (IMDb doesn't) is suspect, that's no surprise.Pretty surprising that IMDb would screw up that way, though.

“Public Enemy” awaits a verdict; other stuff happens

... we saw a pretty different selection of films). I’ll be writing about it one-more time tomorrow. * Nikki Finke has the “actuals” in from on “ Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen .” It’s $390 million worldwide. I guess that’s enough. She’s also upset over some impending Oscar changes , including a rule that might limit the number of “Best Song” entries and having a separate, non-televised...
