It would be by no means the first time that a bookmaker knew something that punters didn't and most certainly not the first time that one took a calculated risk in luring the mug fish into the net. More fairly low-level jumps racing today, but the graduation chase at 14.40 CET at Bangor could be quite informative, even though there are only 4 runners. Free World (Paul Nicholls/ Ruby Walsh), whose team is now coming into top form (3 winners yesterday) is the likely favourite, but this race will be no pushover and the two German-breds Moon over Miami (Charlie Mann/ Noel Fehily) and...

It says a lot for the jump racing faithful that more than usual of them turned out at the top of a rainswept Devon hill on a chilly, gloomy midweek afternoon just to watch a horse not compete in a race. The draw was Denman, brought along to Exeter for a day out by trainer Paul Nicholls ahead of his seasonal comeback in the Hennessy Gold Cup 17 days hence at Newbury.

Charles Dance doesn't just spend his time sitting in the row in front of me at the theatre with Penelope Wilton; no, sometimes he does a bit of acting as well. Like a guest spot on this week's Merlin . Actually I'm not crazy about Charlie Dancer, mainly after seeing him in a production of Long Day's Journey Into Night where he got out-acted by Paul Nicholls. By Paul Nicholls!...

Star of the show at Exeter today is Gold Cup winner Denman, but he will not be taking part in any of the races, rather galloping on the track and then opening the new building and bar named after him. However his trainer Paul Nicholls and (sometimes) jockey Ruby Walsh will be there and have 3 good chances. The Minack, an Irish point-to-point winner when last seen in March, possibly has...
