My plan was to have this post up on Thursday, but after another tough loss, with another bunch of questionable calls by Ron Turner, and after seeing the regression of a Pro Bowl quarterback, I had to chime in early. The Bears offense is in desperate need of a coach that can coach. Last week I speculated the Bears could hire Charlie Weis as offensive coordinator if the Fighting Irish let him...

... to convert 3rd-and-one situations over the last 2 years is flat out ridiculous. But I guess Ron Turner deserves some credit — at least he didn’t try that horrible fullback dive on Sunday. In the last month, the Bears have allowed opponents to score 45, 41 and 36 points. It’s obvious neither Babich nor Lovie can coach these guys up. How ’bout Ron Turner? He’s seen a lot of defenses...

Mike Martz is denying it all the way -- and other sources say he wants the head coaching job in Buffalo, anyway -- but the Chicago Tribune is reporting that he's in line to become the Bears' offensive coordinator. The thinking there is he might be the genius who could salvage Jay Cutler, not current OC Ron Turner.

are not considering hiring Mike Martz just yet.But if they do indeed make Ron Turner the scapegoat for the 2009 season, they will have to consider Martz. Why wouldn't they'He is one of the great offensive minds of an era -- a brilliant game planner and play-caller. What's more, Martz and remain friends after working together in St. Louis for three years. Martz never has been available when Smith...

AP File Photo According to Mike Martz, there will be no "Greatest Show On Turf" at Soldier Field. With the Bears mired in a three-game losing streak (and losers in five of their last six games), rumors have swirled that both head coach Lovie Smith and GM Jerry Angelo are on the way out , rumors the team has denied. Another rumor has offensive coach Martz coming to town , pushing out Ron...

... to be good without constant coaching' , or something to that extent. He called into question both Ron Turner and QB coach Pep Hamilton, while reflecting on his time in New England spent under then QB coach (and current Denver Bronco head coach) Josh McDaniels, and then Patriot offensive coordinator (and current Notre Dame head coach) Charlie Weis. Every QB meeting he had in N.E. was spent...

Reported interest in Ron Turner's job unlikely to sit well with Lovie Smith David Haugh: Didn't Mike Martz already make life uncomfortable enough for Lovie Smith earlier this season by calling out the immaturity of Jay Cutler, the quarterback Martz now reportedly would love to coach?

... mind that the Bears now hold a 4-6 record in spite of adding supposed franchise QB Jay Cutler, who Ron Turner has managed to turn into the second coming of Rex Grossman, and in spite of Lovie personally taking over the defensive play calling. The media and fans alike have been imploring the Bears ownership to eat those contracts and make a coaching change. Turner is also the subject...

by Matt Snyder Filed under: Chicago Bears , NFC North , NFL Coaching With the Chicago Bears struggling through a season which began with such lofty expectations, many names are bound to be connected to the Bears . Most notably, people will start speculating about head coaches, defensive coordinators (to take pressure off Lovie Smith ) and offensive coordinators who could replace the maligned Ron Turner....

Yesterday, wiltfongjr brought up a name of someone who could replace Ron Turner should the Bears choose to not bring him back: Mike Martz. Well, apparently, this could be more of a realistic chance than originally thought. A source close to former St.Louis Rams coach Mike Martz, most recently the San Francisco 49ers ' offensive coordinator last season, said the architect of The Greatest Show...

With my ongoing series on possible replacements (if he's fired) for Ron Turner to coordinate the Bears offense under way, (click here for Charlie Weis and here for Mike Martz ) I thought I'd throw out some hiring rules for coaches in the NFL. We are all aware of the Rooney Rule in regards to hiring Head Coaches or senior football operations positions, but there are some restrictions in hiring...
