They Might Be Giants’ new album Here Comes Science is all sorts of awesome. One of the things I like is the inclusion of both Why Does The Sun Shine? and a new song, Why Does the Sun Really Shine?. The first one, a cover of Tom Glazer and Dottie Evans’s song, begins: The sun is a [...]

Boston Community Capital, a Boston-based nonprofit, is partly to thank for the recent unveiling of 1,800 new solar panels that now grace the roofs of Hopkinton's middle and high schools as well as its police and fire stations. Boston Community Capital first entered the solar energy market a few years ago to provide renewable and more economical energy options to affordable and low-income housing projects....

... workers 'meeting', school kids skiving etc. I'll maybe make my way up that way next time the sun's out. There's lots of weird and wonderful looking birds, bats (yes, bats, huge bats, not cricket bats, BATS, I've attached a photo to prove it). I learnt that these bats are in the process of being moved from the gardens as they're destroying endangered plant life. The larger of tree's in the gardens...

The readers of The Sun, like most of us, would no doubt have been disgusted to learn that a 17 year old man with learning difficulties may have lost his mother to arson last week. They will have been appalled that yet another victim of systematic bullying had been allowed to reach such an awful [...]

The sun shone brightly all weekend... as if it somehow KNEW that there was no way Cleveland residents were going to be subjected to yet another Browns loss, and it wanted to celebrate with us. (Maybe Ma Nature has NFL bye weeks marked on her calendar?!) I was on the garden center schedule until 5pm on Sunday, but when things slowed down around 3:45 I was able to head home to do some work in the garden....

The sun was shining this morning as we set off after a hearty breakfast, for our usual wave watching walk at Barricane Beach. The tide was just going out leaving a clean washed beach for us to explore. It was very windy so I decided that I would try and capture the 'sea horses' being blown from the tops of the waves. My camera was being especially unco -operative in focusing and driving me mad so I...

The sun was shining again this morning we walked to Heanor for our breakfast, Accompanying us on our perambulations this morning, was our friend Jayne. The biggest problem today was the wet conditions under foot. We decided to cut across a grassy field, as we have done on numerous occasions in the past, only to discover that it was waterlogged and more than a little 'squelchy'. Never mind, the walk...

OK, as a philosophy exercise, I must stress that the sun always shines. It never changes. What changes is the atmosphere around the earth. The clouds come and go, bringing all sorts of precipitation , sandstorms etc. So, don't get me wrong here. The title of this post is just a title not some science mistake. The world is how we perceive it. That's an exercise we must learn well. I do my best to be...

On Wednesday 4th November a memorial service for Norman Glass was held at St Martin’s in the Fields in Central London. The occasion was respectful, sorrowful and celebratory in equal measure; but for all the reminiscences, the testimonies and fine words; it missed summing up Norman. But then it was never easy to sum up the man in a few “bon mots” or telling observations. The last...

Nothing makes me happier than having my worst gloom and doom nightmares blasted away by the bright morning sun. These election returns are just plain heartening. They demonstrate that Americans have not been brainwashed, or so badly educated for so long that they really did buy the whole hopeychangey-give-the-government-more-power thing for real. They demonstrate, also, that conservatism is...
