Amo Endorses Reed

Reader Elmer sends today's Corning Leader story [pdf] about Amo Houghton endorsing Tom Reed. This is expected and unsurprising, though perhaps a little early. I wonder if there's an insurgent candidate in the wings who might be emboldened by the example of Doug Hoffman in NY-23.

Reed Gets a Groan

The Corning Leader gives Tom Reed a groan for trying to paint Eric Massa as a "Pelosi clone".

Official Reed Numbers

Tom Reed's FEC report is out. It shows that Reed raised $136K and has $117K cash on hand. Reed contributed $13K to his own cause. Reed's financial report is remarkable because it's almost entirely contributions from individuals and political committees in the area. There are no national party contributions, so Reed could still go to that well in the future. This...

Filatov = Zherdev?

from Tom Reed of Puck-rakers at the Columbus Dispatch, Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock and his 19-year-old rookie Nikita Filatov met for more than 10 minutes at center ice this morning as the players swirled around them. It was a fascinating scene as Hitchcock, at times tapping his stick on the ice, conveyed what’s expected of the talented Filatov. By all accounts, it was a healthy and...

Reed Asked for Stimulus Money

The Corning Leader reports that Tom Reed sent a letter to state and federal representatives, including Eric Massa, to request over $5 million in stimulus funds for Corning. Reed now says that he doubts that he would accept that money.

Reed Continues Digging

Tom Reed probably has blisters on his blisters from all the shoveling he's been doing lately. The hole he's dug is pretty deep: Reed says that it would be "troublesome" for him to accept stimulus money he requested as Mayor, since he's now a Congressional candidate. But it wasn't "troublesome" for him to personally accept $1.18 million in grant money earlier this...

Tester’s Wilderness Bill: Q & A With Trout Unlimited’s Tom Reed

... with many motorized access advocates that this bill is a bad idea. I recently sat down with Tom Reed, the Montana/Wyoming backcountry organizer for Trout Unlimited, to get his response to some of the main objections raised by the bill’s critics.

Dunning on Corning Elections, Machines

Reader Elmer sends yesterday's Corning Leader column [pdf] by Joe Dunning, who discusses the Democrats' losses in last week's elections. Frank Coccho, the controversial former mayor who was beaten by Tom Reed, tried again for the job and was beaten soundly. Dunning's take on the new voting machines was that the process lacks some privacy at the voting booth and when the ballot is scanned.

Hitchcock: Blue Jackets targeted Ovechkin

... Boudreau said. "That's what it looked like to me." Courtesy of the Columbus Dispatch's Tom Reed, here's Jackets Coach Ken Hitchcock's rather candid response: "That would be correct," Hitchcock said. "That's the name of the game. Why, is that against the rules now?" Hitchcock made it clear he thought it "unfortunate" that Ovechkin suffered an upper-body...

Good Question #2: Are Bills Too Hard to Read

... for a hell of a long time, it's disingenuous for John Boehner to bitch about it, and a lawyer like Tom Reed is better-equipped to understand it than the average person.

My Take on NY-23

... if Hoffman does pull out a win in NY-23, the circumstances in the 29th are a bit different. First, Tom Reed isn't a worn-out Assembly hack like Dede Scozzafava. The smartest thing the Republicans have done in the 29th so far is to refrain from nominating someone associated with the mess in Albany. Reed also doesn't have a Assembly record to run away from, and his public statements...

News of the Post Meridiem

Tom Reed sent the Deputy Mayor to an event and The Corning Leader didn't like it . The Messenger-Post reports that Eric Massa wants to extend the first-time homebuyer tax credit. WETM reports that Massa expects a healthcare reform bill vote by Thanksgiving, and that he's still not happy with the current bill's lack of a robust public option. He'd still vote "no" on the current plan....
