Gettelfinger Discusses UAW's Rejection of Ford Contract

This morning in a First on Fox Business I spoke to Ron Gettelfinger ,the UAW (United Auto Workers) president, about the UAW's vote against a deal with Ford. As you may recall on October 14th in a blog entitled, "Gettelfinger on Details of the UAW's Contract with Ford," I called the deal "lousy" for Ford [...]

Ford – UAW Contract Going Down in Flames?

It sure looks that way. The Detroit Free Press reports—without any commentary whatsoever—that six out of eight locals who’ve voted have rejected the deal. This despite the usual specter of United Auto Workers’ voter fraud/intimidation issue (contract votes are not subject to independent monitoring). To wit: “Details of tally not available” and “Number...

MICKEY KAUS: “It’s now clear that the fate of even unionized auto workers will vary with the success or failure of their individual employers. They’re back to competing against each other, not just against the “bosses.” … P.S.: Too bad the GM and Chrysler bailouts, with their minimal UAW contract concessions, may have given [...]

Why does Ford have a 3Q profit and GM doesn't?

Ford Motor Company has a $997 third quarter profit, according to this morning's Detroit Free Press. They received no government aid and they didn't go bankrupt like GM and Chrysler. What's the difference? Why was Ford able to do it and not the others? Management? UAW contracts? Karma?
