Veg Out

Being violently ill during the pre–dawn hours of Monday morning perhaps wasn’t the best start to this week. By late yesterday afternoon, stretched out on the sofa and still feeling utterly ragged, I flicked on the television to watch the BBC News at six o’clock. Even before the main headlines were announced I had flaked out and didn’t come around until The One Show was on, which...

Fruits and Veg

... in soups, but quite some time ago I’d marked a recipe in (wait for it…) Madhur Jaffrey’s World Vegetarian . I finally got around to trying it this fall, and really enjoyed it – so I made it again! The original recipe calls for apricots, but I didn’t have any on hand, so I used dried peaches instead. Here is my rendition: Persian Style Carrots with Dried Peaches 1 Tab olive oil + 1 tab butter 1...

Can't. Blog. Must. Bake.

... I don't know how to do that. Yeah.) Between batches I do this: Oh, yeah. I was here for a reason. Veg. 41 of you bastards who expressed a preference wanted me to make actual food from the organic veg box . Thanks for nothing. I give you "Aubergine Whatthefuck": Yes, I did bloody well make it myself. Look, here it is festering, sorry, cooking: It was gross. I lost control of my salting...

Planning our plot for 2010

Over the next few weeks I'm hoping to plan our veg plot for 2010. I'm not sure yet what veg to do, but I definately want salad. I also use alot of root vegetables so there is plenty to consider. plus I also need to decide if I want to do raised beds.. I am going to do some research with my son, and then we'll plan it out and share our plan on here... TBC.

Farmers market in Tonbridge pleeeeease!...

I took a step back in time this morning and went along to the Shipbourne (pronounced Shibburn for you out of towners!) Farmers Market bright and breazy just as the church clock began to chime nine o'clock. It's more popular than ever as more and more crafty type stalls start to appear alongside the fruit and veg, game, fish, cheese, mushroom, jams and pickles, honey and bread and cake stalls. I've...

Otterly fantastic

Sorry for abandoning you through November, but it's my busiest month and I barely got time to pick up my camera other than to photograph beads. No pictures in this post either, but I wanted to report some progress in my quest to photograph otters. I have a veg patch with a view - it's in our bottom field, so it looks out over the bay. On Sunday morning I was happily getting on with digging it over...

A New Me – December 2009
