LifeSiteNews.com reports that, according to a British legal expert, the recent decision by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) condemning the display of crucifixes in Italian public schools could result in the removal of all public displays of a Christian origin in all public buildings of Europe under the newly passed Lisbon Treaty. The ECHR decision banning crucifixes in Italy's public schools...

The Vatican is holding a conference dedicated to examining that very question: ROME — A little more than a half-mile from the Vatican, in a square called Campo de’ Fiori, stands a large statue of a brooding monk. Few of the shoppers and tourists wandering through the fruit-and-vegetable market below may know his story; he is [...]

'Cause every other day there's some ridiculous post I feel like I have to respond to. Today's follows up on a line John Loftus has been in love with lately: that Christianity reinvents itself for each new generation (and that this somehow discredits it). My favorite part is this: after "debunking" the notion that Christianity has any unity from 2 millenia ago until now, Loftus celebrates:...

Now, you can know what Christianity is all about, and I spare you from going to church to hear all that. Time and time again, I always hear these preached: Your relationship with God, and also relationship with fellow created beings. No, it's not called religion. Love. Purpose and direction in life. The proud man, says C.S. Lewis, cannot see God because he is always looking down his nose at things and people, and so long as you are looking down, you cannot see what is above you. We can never let ourselves forget that in this on-going search for truth, the truth will always remain above us. We must approach the truth as children ready to be transformed by and conformed to something greater than...

In a bleary-eyed opinion article in the Sunday Boston Globe (11/8/09), Harvard divinity professor Harvey Cox denounces religious "fundamentalism." In doing so, he places mass-murdering Muslims from the Middle East on the same playing field as conservative Christians from the United States. From Cox's article: As the 20th century ended and a new one began, fundamentalism has taken on more...

If you had "less than 24 hours" in the over-under for how long after the Fort Hood shooting it would take for someone to make the knee-jerk suggestion that all Muslims be barred from serving in the U.S military, congrats -- you win. Oh, and feel free to kick a couple of bucks of that pot to the good, God-fearing folks at the American Family Association, since you owe them. From the AFA's...

The folks from Westboro Baptist Church have sunk to a new low. I honestly didn't think it was possible; reveling in American dead as Divine punishment for the "sin" of homosexuality, standing around military funerals with the message that God killed our young service personnel because the United States isn't terrorizing the gay folk is bad enough. Now, they are protesting outside Sascha and...

I have never been religious, but here I am with Mercy Streets , a film produced by ChristianCinema.com with themes of redemption and rebirth. Yet Christianity doesn't play much of a role in the qualities of the film. Even with little to no understanding of the Bible and despite a hokey plot riddled with clichés, the first 60 minutes of Mercy Streets are surprisingly good, especially for a film that...
