Cities and donors have long had an "edifice complex" so I suppose this isn't surprising per se, but the scale of some of these investments...

A northeast Kansas City restaurant is open for business tonight after an electrical fire damaged the exterior roof of its building. Fire officials estimated the blaze caused about $10,000 in damage to the Smuggler’s Inn on Universal Avenue near Interstate 435 and Front Street.

The 13-year-old Kansas girl saved the biggest smile for last, when she rattled off the letters to "Laodicean" to become the nation's spelling champion. In an attempt to make some money, former child star Willie Aames held a garage sale at his Olathe, Kansas home. Aames, who filed for bankruptcy last year and whose house is in foreclosure, held the sale Thursday. Among the items being sold were antiques, artwork, movie memorabilia, stuffed wildlife the actor had killed, a piano and leather couches. Aames argued prices with fans and signed autographs.
