The every other year event will begin teeing it up this morning at the Vahalla Country Club in Louisville Kentucky. At the last meeting, the Europeans routed the US by the score of 18.5 to 9.5. No question about it, the US faces another uphill battle this year. Not just because Tiger Woods is out but because half the squad has never played in the matches before. Therefore I predict another Europe...

Grey and wet today. A mild rain has been falling all day, otherwise it's not too bad temperaturewise. I gather the mid west of the USA got a lashing from the combined remnants of tropical storm Lowell (from the East Pacific) and hurricane Ike. Louisville KY reported a gust of 75 mph, that's actually hurricane force. The weather charts now show the depression, all that remains of Ike, over eastern Canada....

In the daily flood of links that stream by me via RSS or Twitter, I noticed a post by Mark Schaver, the computer-assisted reporting director of the Louisville Kentucky Courier-Journal, in which he challenged the view of newspaper executives as short-sighted and out-of-touch . He pointed to a couple of projects in the US, Videotex and Knight-Ridder’s early investment in Netscape (then Mosaic). Mark...

The forty miles of I65 we drove from the Ohio River through Louisville KY south was bonejarring rough. We were happy to turn off onto the Western KY Parkway. At Eddyville KY we drove south on Hwy 641 seeing both the Barkley Dam on the Cumberland River and the Kentucky Dam on the Tennessee River. We had to backtrack near Benton KY due to an accident. We arrived home around 330 whe

We drove over 475 miles today from the middle of Michigan through Indiana to just south of Louisville KY. We stopped for gas twice and stopped several times to stretch our legs and unstretch our bladders. It's been a long day for us since we usually don't go more than 200 miles and I took no pictures. So I thought I'd just share some wildflower photos that I didn't previously post but
