Bellaire resident Dr. Roberta B. Ness, dean of The University of Texas School of Public Health, has recently been elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, a nonprofit organization that serves as an adviser to the nation on health issues.

Lauri Rosen Sack, 43, has always been a book lover, so it was natural for her to open a bookstore. After attending the University of Texas, and later teaching English as a second language to adults, 10 years ago she opened a children's bookstore in Meyerland Court called Children's Chapters. She set up the small space like a home, with a “comfy, cozy feel.”

Since it's inception in 2001, the Bellaire Men's Club has taken on a variety of service projects to benefit the community. The club is comprised of more than 250 high school boys in their junior or senior year who live in and around Bellaire. Their non-profit organization is supervised by parent advisors and a board of directors located in an office in Westbury Square, 5425 W. Bellfort.
