Watershed still having drainage issues

Drainage along Edgebrook Street east of Interstate 45 has improved, but some houses still flood after a heavy rain. James Muecke, a neighborhood resident who has worked 40 years for better drainage in the Berry Bayou watershed, said he's hopeful the problems can be fixed.

Nonprofit to host annual shrimp boil

More than 700 people are expected to attend the 20th Annual Shrimp Boil, benefitting The Rose, Houston's leading non-profit breast cancer organization. The Shrimp Boil will be held from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Pasadena Convention Center, 7902 Fairmont Parkway. The live auction begins at 6 p.m. and the silent auction will be from 4-7:30 p.m.

Gardeners host Open Garden Day event

Residents are invited to tour the working and demonstration gardens maintained by the Harris County Master Gardeners at Precinct 2 from 9-10:30 a.m. July 2, at Genoa Friendship Garden, 1202 Genoa Red Bluff. The site includes a vegetable garden, fruit orchard, perennials, roses, herb and cactus gardens and two working greenhouses.
