Alvin Community College’s LEARN Project will offer a six-week course for adults with disabilities beginning Aug. 12. During the six-week session, participants are taught skills in such topics as money management, functional reading, food and nutrition, social interaction and vocational preparation. Guest speakers and field trips sometimes are included.

I had chalked it up as a weird experience but now that all this stuff is coming out about these so called UFO’s in Texas it really makes me wonder. When Henry Adams moved to Pearland a year ago after retiring from his job as a plumber in Chicago, he dreamed of a laid-back, stress-free life on the Texas Gulf Coast. Instead, Adams said he wakes up each morning and looks out his balcony at the Blue Ridge Landfill on FM 521 in Fort Bend County. And then the smell hits like a hamper of dirty socks.

The regional meeting is being organized by the Houston-Galveston Area Council and will take place at 6 p.m. at Westside Events Center, 2150 Country Place Parkway.
