Cathay Pacific announced at the weekend it had sacked a senior pilot for performing a low-flying stunt with a new Boeing 777 aircraft the Hong Kong airline was collecting from Seattle. Whether Captain Ian Wilkinson was trying to impress his bosses - including Chris Pratt, Cathay chairman - and other VIPs on board the delivery flight remains unclear.

Though incredibly brief, this video captures Captain Ian Wilkinson as he's test-driving a maiden 230-ton Boeing 777-300ER Cathay Airlines jumbo jet. Channeling Goose à la "Top Gun," the pilot was just fired for pulling this dare devilish stunt--specifically unbeknownst to both his passengers or control tower, he flew the jet just 28ft above the runway while traveling at 320mph.
