Moveon.org just launched a contest to see who can create the best TV ad for Barack Obama. These should be along the line of MoveOn.org’s BushIn30Seconds ad contest in 2004 (except these are supposed to be positive). Anyone can upload a video, and the best one submitted to ObamaIn30Seconds by April 1 will [...]

A darned obvious observation: sometime after November 4th’s US election, we’ll hit upon Political Startup Judgement Day: the time of reckoning for the hundreds - nay, thousands - of sites that owe their popularity to the ballooning buzzcloud around this presidential race. This virtual bushfire might not come until 6 months in to Obama’s [...]

Next New Networks , the conglomerate of niche video channels that's best known as home of Obama Girl , has struck online video distribution deals with Yahoo, Hulu and Metacafe. Yahoo (YHOO) and Metacafe will get access to all Next New Networks programming, while Hulu will distribute six of the company's most popular networks. The deal expands Next New Networks' already considerable distribution, which...

Earlier today Jay Lassiter got to interview internet sensation and Jersey girl Amber Lee (aka Obama Girl ). As soon as I can get Jay to stop giggling like a little school girl, we'll get to work on editing the video. Stay tuned.

We already know Republicans have a hard time being funny, and even being catchy is a stretch for them, but when I found this hilarious video at Daily Kos I thought C&L readers would like to share in the unintended laughs. In response to the Obama Girl videos, a Fred Thompson supporter made [...]

When Obama Girl's " I Got a Crush...On Obama " video hit YouTube on June 13, 2007, the mainstream media went nuts. In the next two weeks, there were over 100 press reports, including television features about the video and its star on ABC, CBS, CNN, FNC, NBC, and MSNBC. As a result, to date, there have been over 7 million views of this piece at YouTube. On Tuesday, the producers, Barely Political,...

I don't think I'm alone in considering "Obama girl" and her imitators the most annoying Internet meme of the 2008 U.S. election (including the entire Ron Paul campaign). But I suppose it was only inevitable that the phenomenon would go global. Anonymous Russian Internet jokers have redubbed the entire "I've Got a Crush on Obama" video into Russian to make it about new president Dmitry Medvedev. Apparently,...

I made it two whole posts without bringing up Clinton/Obama.
I know this story has come up in various comment threads, but somehow last week the fine folks at the Stranger forgot to mention that
Obama Girl, the most publicly visible Gen Y Obama supporter,
didn't actually bother to vote for Obama
in the New Jersey Primary.
I'm sure a few thousand Obama supporters will tell me why I have no...

From a politically-minded tipster: Can we get a thread to find out how Barack Obama was as a prof at Chicago? It would be perfect for the election season. Not to mention that I really want to know what he was like in the classroom... Not that many people on Above the Law could probably help with this one, but I'd love to hear any reports of Hillary Clinton at Arkansas too. She did teach a few classes...

While “Yes We Can” doesn't spread Obama’s views and is “non-political” in nature, it's emotional tone strikes a chord. While much has been written about Obama’s oratory style, it is difficult to argue that lyrical is not an appropriate descriptor. The same can not be said about much of the footage on YouBama, set up by two recent Stanford graduates, though its content is authentic.

Filed under: Activism , Stories , United States , News The U.S. presidential election is a scant eleven months away, and I, for one, wish someone in the media would start discussing it. Thankfully, Julia Ross over at World Hum is on the case, in a playful new article taking a look at each candidate's "global travel profile." Find out which candidate is most likely to be identified as an American abroad,...

Years ago, the fellows at the Berkman Center decided that we needed a single day a week where we would all make a best-faith effort to be at the center, so we could socialize, talk about our research, share ideas and generally do whatever it is that fellows are supposed to do. By tradition, this [...]
