Yesterday's hearing on the legislation to legalize same-sex marriage equality was quite something. The hearing started at 3:30 PM and was still going strong well past 10:00 PM- about 100 witnesses were on the list, and the rest (169 more) will be up to testify a week from yesterday. It's the largest number of witnesses ever on a bill. The crowd was about a 50-50 mix of supporters and opponents, but...

crossposted on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters To paraphrase one of my favorite singers, Anne Murray, we sure could use a little good news today. So how about this from D.C. During the recent hearings about marriage equality, the anti-lgbt forces have been slipping and they have been slipping badly. First comes our friend Sista Hot Mess from last week . Remember her? Over 100 witnesses spoke before a Washington DC Council meeting on ''The Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Amendment of 2009.'' The bill is expected to pass through the Council (10 of the 13 members are co-sponsors). Ernestine Copelander was the final witness and she attempted to bring the fire and brimstone but ended up sounding more like beauty queen Carrie Prejean.

I only made it through watching about 3 1/2 hours of Monday's D.C. Council hearing on the same-sex marriage bill before I had to call it a night, and the majority of speakers I heard supported the legislation. Gay, straight, and religious leaders alike came forward to share moving personal stories about what it would mean for the longtime committed same-sex couples in their lives to finally be able...

Halloween’s here … time to cast out those crazy demons! (video: Metro Weekly at YouTube) Yesterday in Washington DC, Ernestine Copeland testified against a bill that would recognize marriage equality in the nation’s capitol. Despite her James-Hartlinesque meltdown, Metro Weekly reports: A majority of the testimonies were touching, pro-marriage equality stories from citizens, activists, and other local...
