It was like Kruger National Park for a short while at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. on Sunday afternoon when a wild deer from Rock Creek Park leapt over the zoo enclosure into the lion exhibit. Watch, AFTER THE...

Since nobody in the Washington, D.C. area wants to talk about the latest Redskins’ loss, the big news of the day around here was the deer who got into the lions’ den at the National Zoo: A deer that jumped a wall at the National Zoo was fatally injured by two lions Sunday as dozens of [...]

I Want That Lioness Indicted! MEAT IS MURDER!! Oh, silly me... that whole food chain thingee again. And yes, it was a feral fawn that actually jumped INTO the lions den at National Zoo in DC. Dumb ass. And according to news reports, after the fawn was rescused from the moat, it was injured so severely that it had to be put down. I wonder if they ended up feeding it to the lions after all?

Many of you have likely already seen this YouTube video shot by Ephraim and Christy Smethers (and fair warning, it's graphic in the same way that many nature shows are) of a deer being attacked by a lion at the National Zoo yesterday. The deer, which had presumably wandered in to the Zoo from neighboring Rock Creek Park, managed to run inside the lion habitat, and the lions, being lions, went after...

A baby deer, probably from Rock Creek Park next to the National Zoo in Washington DC, jumped into the Lion’s Pen. The lions took good care of it too. Listen to the idiots screaming and rooting for the suicidal deer. From the WaPo here: A deer that jumped a wall at the National Zoo was [...]

Normally I am posting clips of some human jumping or falling into a wild animal enclosure in every zoo around the globe. This time it wasn’t a human who fell and fell prey to an enclosed big cat, this time it was a Deer. Over 100 Washington D.C. Zoo goers watched in horror [...]

Visitors to the National Zoo in Washington, DC today got a little more of an idea of what life in the wild might be like than they were probably expecting. A baby deer wandered out of Rock Creek Park and into the zoo, wandered around for a while and then jumped a fence into the moat of the lion enclosure . After the deer had been captured by the lions three times and escaped them three times, zoo officials...

A while back — possibly last fall — I was strolling through the National Zoo near dusk, when I spotted a deer hanging around the Bird House. I asked a Zoo employee, “Is that one of yours'” “No,” he told me, continuing to inform me that there were six deer who lived wild in [...]

Talk about weird news. A fawn jumped into a Lion's cage at a zoo recently. Although the deer escaped it was torn up enough that it had to be put down. I'm sure there is a lesson here somewhere. GHT

Who would think a deer would be crazy enough to jump into a lion exhibit? A wild deer wandered over from Rock Creek Park and jumped right into the lion exhibit at the National Zoo on Sunday afternoon. Two female lions went after the deer, but the deer got away from its predators and made a [...] This post was written by the Super Media Blog Deer Jumps Into Lion Exhibit

As a friend pointed out, it’s weird to freak out about an animal in a zoo — that you came to see! — doing what it does naturally. Maybe this can be read as a metaphor for our own consumption habits. But still, gnarly.
