Donate to Reason to Support "Counter-Programming" to The New York Times ' Coverage of Communism

I had a very pleasant private conversation this year with a certain famous libertarian person who told me that he wakes up in the morning, reads The New York Times on his Kindle, then fires up Reason on the device ( subscribe to our Kindle version today! ) for "counter-programming." While I don't necessarily view our humble mag/website/blog/video juggernaut in opposition to the Great Grey -Green, Greasy...

The fall of the Berlin Wall: And now to the videotape

As we all know, Obama had a busy, busy Monday and didn’t attend the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Instead he sent a videotaped speech which you can listen to here (please note it’s instant-play). Of course, not a word about Ronald Reagan. Via Ace, did Obama not show [...]

Positivity: Remembering the Victims of Communism — Nikolai Getman’s Gulag Collection

As the Reason TV video (HT Instapundit) explains, the evils of communism are to a large extent not recorded in pictures. That’s why what Nikolai Getman did — from memory –is such a positive thing: We cannot forget the objective evil that led to over 100 million deaths and subjugated hundreds of millions more to lives [...]

20 Years Later – Let us not forget the lessons of the fall of the Berlin Wall

It’s telling that President Obama didn’t travel to Germany to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. To do so would be quite hypocritical, seeing that the ideology he adheres to is responsible for the deaths of 100 million people. The Washington Examiner remembers Chris Gueffroy, the last of the victims to [...]

Think Tank Lineup Nov 10 (Berlin Wall)

T H L 's last lineup of commentary from libertarian "think tanks" focused on America's military policy in Afghanistan. Today's Think Tank Lineup TM centers on the 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, which was yesterday. America's great libertarian think tanks had a lot of important things to say: The Reason Foundation Our Dangerous Cold War Nostalgia Communism was the greatest catastrophe...

Why Should We Remember the Berlin Wall?

A young friend of mine snottily told me that she didn't consider the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall to be a big deal. As she put it: I am sure this will irk some, but I have a problem with us being so sentimental about tearing down a wall in another country when we're so gung-ho about putting up a fence at our own. Why should we remember? Maybe this is why:

We Should NEVER Forget

The victims of communism lest we become those victims now. This week was also the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. Thanks in large part (all part) to Ronald Reagan who never was honored with a Nobel peace prize. Maybe we should come up with an alternative prize the Ronald Reagan Prize for World Peace and Justice because military strategy will keep the world at peace and not communism....

[Video] Why the Fall of Communisim Matters

Twenty years ago, the Berlin Wall was breached and Soviet communism, at long last, entered its death spiral. After claiming approximately 100 million victims in the 20th century, communism was dismissed to the ash heap of history. But those who suffered under its boot heel have largely been confined to the history books when not forgotten altogether. Author and historian Lee Edwards set out to correct...
