Initially it looked like the risky demo as Bill called it may not work but after a few touches, the wall came to life and Touch Wall was shown to 100 or so CEO’s at the 2008 CEO Summit . TechCrunch has more on this . Michael Arrington answers what I think is going to be the most obvious question: TouchWall and Plex are superficially similar to Microsoft Surface , a multi-touch table computer that...

Bill Gates will demo a new multi-touch computer and interface today called TouchWall at the Microsoft CEO Summit in Redmond. TouchWall refers to the touch screen hardware setup itself; the corresponding software to run TouchWall, which is built on a standard version of Vista, is called Plex. By Evan Ackerman It's no secret what fans we are of the amazing, the incredible, the unrealistically expensive Microsoft Surface. TouchWall is sort of (kinda) like Surface, except vertical. You use it just like a giant multi-touchscreen (in this example, a sheet of plexiglass with a projector behind it). The functional difference between TouchWall and Surface [...]

The digital future appears to be one that embraces touch-screen technology, or so Microsoft thinks. http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/05/1...-touch-display/ The video pretty much speaks for itself. I love the concept of Surface, but some of the preliminary cost figures I've heard have definitely priced it out of my living room for a while. Touchwall uses a much simpler mechanism but still provides many of the great features of Surface at what should hopefully be a much more consumer friendly price...

Last year Microsoft showed off the Surface and today the firm presented a big TouchWall computer: I'm not sure whether Gates is getting more emotional, but he is definitely big on the power of new user interfaces, especially touch-screen devices. On Wednesday, he is set to show off Microsoft's latest prototype, known as TouchWall. The device to be shown Wednesday is something like a giant Surface unit...

I don't see how this is any different than the Microsoft Surface (the table), but as always, we all enjoy a little touch screen interaction, especially if it's intuitive. Could be cool for presenting to huge groups. Update: Ok, so it uses 3 lasers placed at the bottom that create a mesh across the screen which [...]

After showing the revolutionary surface computer last year, Microsoft demonstrated today another brand new concept: their new software transforms any surface into a multitouch display as seen in Minority Report. Really impressive. More on CrunchGear .
