Filed under: Misc. Gadgets Not quite sure what's up with the recent influx of bicycle-related DIY jobs , but nevertheless, we've another one on our hands here with Mike's Flying Bike. Essentially, Mike utilized a SunSPOT as well as a plethora of other sensors in order to modify his mountain bike for use as a Google Earth controller. Now isn't this one of the more zany ideas you've come across? Sure, your friends have taken a long sabbatical to do crazy stuff like sail around the world, but you too can embark on a journey around the world (in less than 80 days, too) by cycling. Ok, I have to say this is the craziest way to control Google Earth I've seen yet (even crazier than the ping pong ball interface). This guy Mike has used a SunSPOT (a 3D sensor device that has a Java software interface) to enable his bicycle to serve as a flight control joystick for Google Earth's flight simulator. He claims the pedals serve as the power control, and has built a couple other lever...

Using Sunspot, Mike has made a bike that can fly in Google Earth. "Sun has been very successful in spreading Java to over 6 billion devices throughout the world. Well over a billion cell phones run Java. We in Sun Labs are interested in what comes next. In order to help make sure that the next [...]

Here's a pretty cool way to use Google Earth to lose some pounds: This guy Mike has used a SunSPOT (a 3D sensor device that has a Java software interface) to enable his bicycle to serve as a flight control joystick for Google Earth's flight simulator. He claims the pedals serve as the power control, and has built a couple other lever controls for what looks like aerolon (banking) controls. Travel through...
