Yesterday, the Wonk Room's Matt Duss noted that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) often incorrectly portrays Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as if Ahmadinejad has a significant role in formulating Iranian foreign policy. He doesn't. Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and Iran's National Security Council set Iran's foreign policy. Yesterday, Time’s Joe Klein pressed McCain on [...]

(via HuffPo) Joe Klein confronts Senator McCain on his Obama-Ahmadinejad smear and, while trying to justify it, gets a basic fact about Iranian leadership wrong. Being that Ahmadinejad is such a villainous figure, John McCain has a vested interest in tying everything having to do with Iran back to him. But the fact is [...]

Miami Here's the youtube link to my questioning of McCain about Ahmadinejad yesterday. Once again, before a Latino audience today in Miami, McCain once again used his standard line about Ahmadinejad as the leader of Iran and added, "What are they [Obama and Ahmadinejad] going to talk about, the destruction of Israel?" That got a laugh. I'll have more in my print column this week. Then Again : McCain...

It's not every day that Time 's Joe Klein gets to look like a responsible, truthful, intrepid reporter but I guess even Rush Limbaugh would look as good when compared by conspicuous relief to a foreign policy anti-savant like John McCain. He ought to be drinking in this moment for as long as it lasts. The Huffington Post did a wonderful job of bringing to light John McCain's latest Iran gaffe in this...

I know this was just a gaffe. I also know that the McCain Campaign will cleverly make this disappear in abotu 3 days. BUT, can you imagine the fallout if a Democrat had said something so flippant about our troops? Can you imagine the media onslaught focusing on how unpatriotic the Democratic Candidate is? I hope McCain [...]

I can’t help but laugh out loud at John McCain’s atrocious butchering of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s name. It’s not hard. AH-MAH-DEE-NEH-JAHD. McCain’s stab was more like AHCK-MEH-DI-DI-NEH-JAHD, complete with “Ackmed” and a “di-di” stutter. Listen for yourself: That is funny. But what is sad and a little bit frightening is that John [...]

McCain doesn't know who leads Iran
Watch for his response. He is essentially saying, "I'm happy attacking the wrong person because the American people don't know enough to call me on it." In my opinion, a president should go out of their way to know who the leaders of other countries are, and should also go out of their way to educate the American people on the matter.
