Here's one hit YouTube video Viacom can't complain about : " Where The Hell Is Matt ", which has been viewed some 4 million times in the last month (we've previously noted the clip's success on Vimeo). The video is lawsuit-free, because the clip is 100-percent user generated content, in the rarely seen literal sense: Not only did game developer Matt Harding produce the video of himself jitterbugging...

My ear isn't exactly to the YouTube grindstone. I had never heard of Matt Harding until I read Charles McGrath's New York Times article about Harding's strange, fascinating, and ultimately thrilling 4-minute video clip. This guy traveled the world and did a weird dance everywhere he went. It sounds simple, and yet while I watched it I felt almost moved to tears. This video is somehow extraordinary....

Part I is here . At the time I posted that, I said: "Some things just make me cry with happiness. And I'm not even sure why. This is one of them." Still true. Find out more about Dancing Matt here . H/T to Shaker Constant Comment by email and Shaker DBC in comments. (If anyone else left this in comments, remind me, and I'll update the post.)

I have of late,—but wherefore I know not,—lost all my mirth, forgone all custom of exercises; and indeed, it goes so heavily with my disposition that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory -- Hamlet, Act II, scene ii (287-290) A few people I talk to, myself included (and I talk to myself on a regular basis), have been feeling off lately. Blame markets. Blame a persistent feeling...

Today I was idly checking twitter.com, and someone had mentioned a joyous video by Franti . I have no idea who he is, but I have played the video about 20 times.. "It seems like everywhere I go, the more I see, the less I know -- but I know one thing -- that I love you." I am bopping in my office chair typing this, and feeling what it is to have a joyful spirit.

Dancing and making a video about dancing is obviously something that elevates Yahoo, which is no small thing in this tough period for the iconic Internet company. In this video, Blog Editor Nicki Dugan takes the well-known dancing-fool Internet celeb Matt Harding of the Where the Hell Is Matt? Web site and takes him all over Yahoo for 33 dancing sessions. It was recently shown at the company's all-hands...

Filed under: Computers , Celebrities We're not gonna lie, we kinda hate this guy , but only because we're so jealous of him. Matt Harding is a former video game designer and counter clerk at a video game store. He never went to college and at this point is basically unemployed. Yet, with the aide of the Stride Chewing Gum company, he is able to underwrite his world travels (without ham-fisted interference...

Screencap: Matt Harding's YouTube. In today's Times , Charles McGrath lends the Gray Lady's imprimatur to Matt Harding, that guy who films himself doing that goofy dance all over the world . "It’s the online equivalent of a platinum hit, seeping from one computer to the next like a virus," McGrath writes of "Where the Hell Is Matt," employing a weirdly malevolent metaphor, but whatever: If this article...

Charles McGrath in the NYT: In many ways “Dancing” is an almost perfect piece of Internet art: it’s short, pleasingly weird and so minimal in its content that it’s open to a multitude of interpretations. It could be a little...

after I first saw the video via
Metafilter
. Metafilter is a snarkful community of wen connoisseurs who have a witty remark or twenty at the ready. So it was with shock that I saw comment after comment of Mefites saying that this video brough a tear to their eye.
I've watched this video at least 50 times --my kids have been playing...

You've probably seen the Where the Hell Is Matt? videos — the main one has been viewed over 11 million times and the 2008 version (above) more than 9 million times. In today's San Jose Mercury News, Mike Cassidy interviews dancing Matt Harding and writes about he has stumbled on the true meaning of the Web. (And Stride gum, the sponsor, isn't doing too badly, either.) By the way, hey, Cassidy, let's...
