Stop motion animation is one of the hottest areas of film-making today. Stop motion is an animation art through which one can spring life in inanimate things and do the unnatural. It works by shooting a single frame of an object, then moving the object slightly, and then shooting another frame. When the film runs continuously in a film projector, or other video playback system, the illusion of fluid...

Filed under: Classics , Horror , Sci-Fi & Fantasy , Shorts , Fandom , Comic/Superhero/Geek You know how all the horror geeks get extra-nervous when someone starts talking about a remake of John Carpenter's The Thing -- despite the fact that (as awesome as it is, and boy is it awesome) it itself is a remake! Doesn't that create some sort of retroactive mega-paradox: That if a REMAKE is that damn good,...

Filed under: Homebrew , Video It might not be the most pleasant music -- some would even argue that it's not music at all -- but there's definitely, uh, something going on in the above RepeaterDS demonstration video. According to developer Bret (a.k.a. Clone45), the same programmer behind cellular automaton sequencer GlitchDS , RepeaterDS is "a music application that allows you to 'play' a sample...

It's been common and unfortunate knowledge for a few years that a remake of John Carpenter's classic, The Thing, was in development somewhere in Hollywood. Fans were outraged by the idea, which of course, is ironic as Carpenter's movie is itself a remake of Howard Hawk's The Thing From ...

Who Goes There? Why, it's G.I. Joe! Quasar Dragon reminds us that we can read John W. Campbell's 1928 paranoia-fest novella " Who Goes There? " online. What a great story. This was, of course, the basis for the 1951 film The Thing from Another World and the 1982 John Carpenter film, The Thing . And in a bit of Information Superhighway Synchronicity, along comes Topless Robot to point us to this high...

This non-official video for Parisian electronics and drums duo Zombie Zombie is a remake of John Carpenter’s The Thing. Directors Simon Gisrel and Xavier Ehretsmann manage to retain the creepiness of the original using only stop-motion animated GI Joe figures. Pretty rad.

This isn’t new, but I had to post it, Directors Simon Gesrel and Xavier Ehretsmann’s non-official video for electro-band Zombie Zombie (made up of mad scientists Professor Etienne Jaumet and Cosmic Neman). Filmed entirely in stop-motion using G.I. Joe action figures, the short is a tribute to John Carpenter’s “The Thing”. Title track is “Driving [...]

I generally try to avoid just posting a video, but this is awesome: Amazing stuff. Has stop-motion animation always been this prevalent? From mainstream ( Robot Chicken ) to amateur (the vid above, and maybe the Marvel vs. DC stuff ), it seems like I'm seing more and more stop-motion these days. [Thanks to Roy for posting the vid on 4k]
