On July 16, Andrew Malcolm at the Los Angeles Times's Top of the Ticket Blog wrote the following (bold is mine): When President Bush ordered the surge in January 2007, (Barack) Obama said: "I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse," a position he maintained throughout 2007. This year he acknowledged...

Matthew Dowd: Obama's biggest advantage today is not his historic candidacy or his ability to give a speech or this efficient campaign organization, but the fact he has a D on his back. My guess is any other Democrat running this year would have at least a five point lead if not larger. Jake Tapper: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, on January 10 2007 predicted (watch HERE ) that the surge of troops...

Maybe there is another explanation for Barack Obama's trouble with the truth, but I'm not sure what it would be. He did it again today, loosing a palpable falsehood on NBC. Not that it's a surprise; Obama coming out with a whopper has become pretty much a daily occurrence. Here is Obama being interviewed by Brian Williams. Williams asks him about the surge, and whether it hasn't been a success. Obama...

Some highlights from the links in my daily email barrage: The McCain campaign wants you to see this cartoon . The Obama campaign wants you to know that McCain was wrong saying the surge started the Anbar Awakening. The McCain campaign counters by pointing out that the Anbar Awakening probably would have fallen back asleep if not for the surge, at lease according to Joe Scarborough . (Note the fun subtext:...

Follow the money, writes William Tate: An analysis of federal records shows that the amount of money journalists contributed so far this election cycle favors Democrats by a 15:1 ratio over Republicans, with $225,563 going to Democrats, only $16,298 to Republicans. Two-hundred thirty-five journalists donated to Democrats, just 20 gave to Republicans — a margin greater than 10-to-1. An even greater...

I’m stealing this from Ed at Hot Air. ABC’s Jake Tapper has called Obama on the carpet over his oft-repeated claim that he always knew the surge would end the violence in Iraq: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, on January 10 2007 predicted (watch HERE) that the surge of troops in Iraq would fail. “I am not [...]

Back in the 1980 presidential debate, Ronald Reagan brushed aside Jimmy Carter’s attacks with the remark, “There you go again.” While the Gipper used the expression to dismiss the then-President’s baseless accusations, perhaps we should use it in this campaign to highlight the attempts of Carter’s candidate to rewrite his record. Just today, the presumptive Democratic nominee claimed, [...]

Here’s Barack Obama speaking out against the decision to “surge” troops into Iraq: I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse. So when will Obama apologize for being wrong about the surge? Or even just admit that he was wrong? And isn’t the fact that he was, in fact, horribly wrong about the surge...

A little over a year ago Obama made it clear that genocide was not reason to stay in Iraq. ... “Well, look, if that’s the criteria by which we are making decisions on the deployment of U.S. forces, then by that argument you would have 300,000 troops in the Congo right now — where millions have been slaughtered as a consequence of ethnic strife — which we haven’t done,” Obama said in an interview with...

By Kathy Shaidle Barack Obama styles himself the candidate of “change” and “hope”. So when his website “changed” to erase his well-known opposition to the Iraq War surge, maybe the Senator “hoped” no one would notice. In this day and age, that’s a foolish, not to mention cynical, conceit, especially coming from the young, self-proclaimed “progressive” [...]

The question that Jack Tapper fact checks is this, "From the Fact Check Desk: Did Obama Say During the Debate Over the Surge That "There's No Doubt that Additional U.S. Troops Could Temporarily Quell the Violence?" Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, on January 10 2007 predicted (watch HERE ) that the surge of troops in Iraq would fail. "I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going...

Spin be damned, he said what he said - the surge wouldn't work. Jake Tapper at ABC " Fact Check s" Obama and finds him wanting on the truth. What he said then is clear and trying to say the opposite is true now that success is a reality simply reveals just how ingrained he is in his own delusional message.

January 10, 2007 - Obama declares his opposition to the surge. He says it won't work. During the surge, he says it isn't working. Now that the entire world can plainly see the surge has drastically reduced sectarian violence in Iraq, he says he still wouldn't support the surge. Is this the man you want carrying around the nuclear codes?
