The Foggy Dew should be busy tonight. Mind you, so should all the other pubs in Dublin. There'll be more cause than usual for singing now that one hears the sad news of Ronnie Drew's death. The Telegraph obituary puts the appeal of The Dubliners quite well: The Dubliners achieved fame and notoriety as singers of street ballads and bawdy songs, and as players of fine instrumental traditional music....

Sorry to read that Ronnie Drew, founder of The Dubliners, has died age 73. I have always liked the Dubliners, and enjoyed Ronnie's solo stuff, so I wanted to mark the event...he will be missed by those who appreciate good music.

A bad day for Dublin. Not only were they completely outclassed by Tyrone at Croke Park today, but one of their favourite sons has died. Ronnie Drew was a member of the Dubliners, one of the most well-known traditional Irish bands of all time, and also had a successful solo career. He will be sorely missed.
