Cable believed their pundits were more interesting than this speech. They made the wrong call:

...and nominate this guy. He's great, much better than that guy the Democrats nominated in 2004, whatever his name was. Bill Clinton was terrific but John Kerry was dazzling. I was at home baking a cakeblueberry pound cake from scratch, typical gay lifestyle stuffwith the convention on the radio. About four minutes into Kerry's speech I stopped what I was doing and just stood there and listened....

The best line of the night came from Clinton: "People around the world have always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power." But man, did John Kerry ever hit it out of the park. If only he spoke like this at his own convention. Subscribe.

via Josh Marshall. Awe-some. You can be forgiven for wondering where this passion was four years ago. But here we are.

The irony of working on this stuff, is that well, you're working, so I haven't really been keeping up on the festivities. I started streaming stuff tonight, and while there's been a lot of good stuff (the nomination itself was particularly nice ), a lot of it seems to be lacking a bit of the fire . Dennis Kucinich brings it, big time (even with a great zinger edited out ): (Hearing good things about...

Today's batch of pictures is a bit smalll . Worse, Flickr's on the fritz and the slideshow application's not working. Instead, click through to the Flickr page where you can see them all, including some text descriptions. I also wanted to link to the major speeches given thus far in the convention, in case you missed any of them: Joe Biden John Kerry Bill Clinton Hillary Clinton nominates Obama by...

I now have the video for the excellent speech given by John Kerry at the convention last night (with transcript previously posted here.) It turns out that, according to Josh Marshall, Kerry wrote the speech himself. During the 2004 campaign I sometimes felt that Kerry was being harmed by taking the advice of political advisers [...]

I don't watch TV so I'm "only" following the Democratic Convention online (which in itself is probably as absurd as watching it on TV: Whereas on TV, you can only see what you get, online the tiniest morsel is presented by somebody somewhere, and you're left out to wonder whether that tiny morsel could have any relevance - how this is preferable to TV escapes me). Needless to say, the Democratic Convention...

Chances are you missed this speech by John Kerry at the Democratic Convention last night; the networks don't cover the anyone but the headliners. But if he had given this speech in 2004, we'd be watching his re-nomination convention. HT to TPM .

It was not lost on anyone last night that, had Kerry been even halfway as straightforward and aggressive in '04, this would have been his convention. It was that recognition on the part of our photographer, Alan Chin, that caused him to catch this photo, and only this photo, of the fighting Kerry last night.

Clinton and Biden were great but I was surprised by Kerry. Watch it. I’m guessing it won’t get the air play it deserves.

They skipped through the Roll Call of the states with Hillary asking to suspend the rules and make the nomination by acclimation. Nice touch for the party unity thing but I've been watching political conventions all my life and it's my favorite part. I love the corny speeches as the Governor of the state sings the praises of wheat or brags that the hometown team won the championship. Where the hell...

Yesterday, I started to write a post about my thoughts on the Democratic convention, but as I was reading some of my favorite pundits last night, I came across a column which pretty much summed up my feelings on the convention so far… The first two days of the convention were wasted, or seemed so from [...]
