Bill Gates And Jerry Seinfeld Join Forces for Baffling, Shoe-Related Performance-Art Video

First, some preliminary info from the Wall Street Journal : Microsoft Corp., weary of being cast as a stodgy oldster by Apple Inc.'s advertising, is turning for help to Jerry Seinfeld. The software giant's new $300 million advertising campaign, devised by a newly hired ad agency, has been closely guarded. But Mr. Seinfeld will be one of the key celebrity pitchmen, say people close to the situation....

The New Bill Gates/Jerry Seinfeld Microsoft Ad

Remember when we posted that Microsoft was finally gonna stop taking it up the Vista and combat those "Get A Mac" ads ? Well here's the first one, featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. It has a shoe theme. And, while I did like the commercial, I didn't get the commercial. Is there any getting to be got? It seems like an old Seinfeld episode. Is Microsoft selling churros now? Youtube Thanks to Terry,...

Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Gates, Alicia Gatto: NTV Station Today

Last night, during NBC’s NFL broadcast of the Giants vs. Redskins game, Jerry Seinfeld’s first Microsoft commercial premiered. Coming in at a whopping 1 minute and 30 seconds, Bill Gates is certainly determined to get every penny’s worth out of Seinfeld’s $10 million paycheck. I’m not quite sure what tasty new future Microsoft is [...]

Jerry Seinfeld’s terrible Microsoft Ad

Jerry Seinfeld is said to have been paid around $10 million to represent Microsoft in a campaign that will cost the company $300 million. There are surely more ridiculous douche-tastic commercials coming, but this one takes the cake. Pretty much literally, considering the ending, which people on The Huffington Post are saying basically means “let [...]

Jerry Seinfeld shills Microsoft and time wasters

I’m still not buying a Mac no matter how much this commercial sucks. Celebitchy: Jerry Seinfeld made a terrible Microsoft ad Bossip: Will Smith and Jada Pinkett caught giving each other tongue action Drunken Stepfather: Brody Jenner’s mom is in a bikini Celebslam: Caroline D’Amore went to the beach Asylum: Playboy Playmates - Where are they now? Lainey: Ghetto tits and ...

Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates Microsoft Ad

Microsoft released their first ad co-starring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. It’s not funny. It’s not entertaining. It’s a waste of money. Jerry got paid $10, and Microsoft plans to spend $300 million on the campaign. Jerry’s fine, but Microsoft really need to fire their ad agency and hire a new one. Steve Jobs will always [...]

Seinfeld becomes McCain

You can see the first Seinfeld ad for Microsoft here. It aired last night. This is going to sound political, but it looked to me a lot like John McCain's speech from later in the same evening. That is, it was selling a myth.

I Just Do Not Get It

And, unlike many of my brethren, I like a lot of Microsoft's products. I did not care for the TV show Seinfeld, and so maybe I just do not care about commercials that are about nothing. Microsoft pays Seinfeld $10 million dollars to participate in $300 million dollars worth of ads to make Microsoft hip (kind of like Apple). But, I tend to think there is a big difference in being viewed as hip and just...

Microsoft's Ad Campaign: Stupid or Genius?

Is the new Microsoft Commercial funny? What are they selling? Are they copying Apple? There are many critics out there bashing Microsoft's new advertising campaign. Many people think it's absolutely horrible, but could it be that it's completely genius? In case you don't know what we're talking about, Microsoft has started a new ad campaign designed to increase awareness of Windows Vista, Windows Live,...

Musings and Wrap-up

Is it me or do others find the new Microsoft ads, featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates, a bit strange and off topic in terms of trying to promote Microsoft and thwart the Apple Mac/PC campaign? I can only assume it is some kind of new marketing approach/plan to build up to something amazing, otherwise a lot of money and brand credibility has been wasted. You can see the ads in this series here...
