Sky Saxon, R.I.P.

Sky Saxon, the founder of the garage band the Seeds, passed away Thursday morning at a hospital in Austin, Texas. Saxon founded the Seeds with Jan Savage, Daryl Hooper, and Rick Andridge in 1965; the band brushed the Top 40 with the above song "Can't Seem To Make You Mine" , and hit No. 36 on the charts with "Pushin' Too Hard" in 1967. The Seeds broke up in 1970, but Saxon continued to make music,...

Sky Saxon of the Seeds also Died Yesterday

Overshadowed by Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcet's death yesterday, a shout out to Sky Saxon is also deserved. He was the co-founder of the local garage band, The Seeds , and made the Top 40 Charts with “Can’t Seem To Make You Mine” and “Pushin’ Too Hard” in 1967. The band broke up in 1970 and Saxon recently moved to Austin where he was publishing music DIY style and playing with his new band Shapes...

More Buried Treasure with the Seeds

Another fine tune courtesy of Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure. The Seeds were a Los Angeles-based garage-psych-rock band in the 60’s and early 70’s. They were fronted by one Sky Saxon, who parted with the band in the early 70’s to join up with Yahowha religious family (aka the Source Family), led by Father Yod. They [...]

Little Steven's Rock and Roll Radio

We Philly kids grew up with great rock and roll radio in the 60s. You'd switch on the transistor and you had it all, from the Supremes and the Four Tops to the Stones and the Beatles to the more obscure but fantastic Dyke & the Blazers and the Shadows of Knight and the Seeds. [...]

Lest We Forget....

As this blog entry was input, we lost another, not-quite-well-known talent - Sky Saxon of the 1960's punk group the Seeds. Until then.... ---------------------------- Just to make sure you're reading this through a reader, and that it isn't being reposted on another blog. For more up-to-date blog posts, please visit...

RIP Sky Saxon

His band was called "The Seeds." His song was a garage band that found a groove and a hook, "Pushing Too Hard," that kinda sorta spoke to the bratty teenager of the late 60s era as well as to the "too cool to live on earth" crowd. Here's a video "from 1966." You can see how they're presenting. Tough. A little arrogant. Then I found this. Here they are in Feb. 1967 with Kaye Ballard and Eve Arden on...

Another Death?? Sky Saxon, lead singer for...

Another Death?? Sky Saxon, lead singer for The Seeds, died on June 25. Big Sis and I used to love this band back in the 60's and we thought Sky was dreamy. Enough already with the deaths!

1. Carla Thomas, "B-A-B-Y." If, like me, you prefer Stax/Volt to Motown, all else being equal, then Carla Thomas is one of your favorites. Although she was only 23 when she recorded this Isaac Hayes tune, she'd been recording for...
