CUF national chairman Ibrahim Lipumba and other senior party functionaries have said one-on-one talks between President Karume and Mr Hamad could be the solution to the political crisis in Zanzibar after CUF and the ruling CCM failed to conclude the Mwafaka talks last January.

So the end of my trip to Zanzibar was fantastic. I ended up meeting some locals in Stone Town who gave me a full tour of the markets hospitals and some mosques which was amazing. I also learned quite a bit about the political situation there....lots of animoisty towards mainland Tanzania.Here I am now in Nairobi Kenya with my PEace and Conflict class. Zanzibar and the Union Government have agreed to share oil and gas revenues as stipulated in the Constitution. A top-level committee dealing with Union problems reached the decision. The minister of state in the Vice-President's Office (Union Affairs), Mr Muhammad Seif Khatib, told reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday that 10 issues had been discussed and agreed upon by the committee on Thursday.
