On Wednesday, the Gophers also signed defenseman Aaron Ness of Roseau. Ness is with a U.S. team playing in Kazan, Russia, but he faxed his national letter of intent. Ness, a 5-foot-10 defenseman, led the rams to the state Class AA tournament this season and had 28 goals and 44 assists. He was the winner of the Minnesota Mr. Hockey Award.-- ROMAN AUGUSTOVIZ
