The Maldives has gone to the polls in its first multi-party election. The sitting president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has won 40.3% of the votes cast. The person who came second was Mohammed Nasheed of the opposition Democratic Party. He got 24.9%. As no candidate got more than half the votes, there will be a second round. It will be interesting to see whether Gayoom - who has been in power for 30 years...
