Tasha Kheiriddin Patrick Mercier The Fraser Institute in Montreal brought former Premier Ralph Klein to Montreal today. He gave a an explanation of how he and the Alberta Tories changed Alberta into a booming debt free society. His answer was to embrace the free market, sell off as many Crown corporations as possible , starting off with the Liquor Control Board and generally embracing capitalism. he...

A while ago I watched Toxic Alberta, an eye-opening American documentary of the social, economic and environmental devastation perpetrated by the Athabasca Tar Sands. My favourite part is an interview with former Alberta Premier Ralph Klein, where Klein says "I have faith in science," and responds to the question, "how do you and Al Gore differ on policy..." with "I'm a Conservative and he's a Socialist!"...

Kevin Taft, outgoing leader of the Alberta Liberal Party, was once called a communist by former premier Ralph Klein, and that prompted him to enter active politics. So, he ran in a provincial election, won a seat in the Legislative Assembly and finally was elected leader of the Alberta Liberals. Having lost yet another provincial...

YET ANOTHER BUDGET SURPLUSIt's the Alberta way. They have so much money they don't know what to do with it - a government trend it seems didn't end with the departure of Ralph Klein.

Having France's highest honour bestowed upon him did not stop former Alberta premier Ralph Klein from recalling how he used to get mad at his cousins for speaking French.

Did you hear about the hottest new vacation destination? It's Alberta Oil Sands Land, with a travel review by Thomas King:Personally, I was more interested in the Ralph Klein Earth Mover rides, but the lines were always much too long. In the end, I spent most of my time at the Waste Water Park, watching happy families relaxing and enjoying their tax dollars in action. But the best part of the entire...

..which is more then I can say for the voters in the province of Alberta, who despite having a Premier who ran a pretty lackadaisical campaign and was under criticism from all sides still managed to come close to Ralph Klein type numbers in a resounding election win last night. The one caveat to all this is that the voter turnout was a woeful 41%. which meant that 21.5% of eligible voters in Alberta...

Not following Alberta politics, well, at all, I have no real insight to offer into the election results there last night. Except to say the name Special Ed has a whole new meaning now. Who would have thought he could better Ralph Klein's numbers? If you're an Alberta Liberal, ouch.I gathered at a T-Dot pub last night to watch the results come in with Calgary Grit, Jason Cherniak and some other Liberals,...

With the election polls opening in less than 8 hours, here's a look at some of the Calgary races that I will be keeping an eye on after the polls close tomorrow night.CalgaryThe big talk of the campaign has largely been "what's happening in Calgary?" With the departure of Ralph Klein last year, Calgarians found themselves on the outside under Ed Stelmach's Tories, which as led to the real proposition...

So here we are again in Alberta, the reigning conservative party calling an election, the other parties scrambling to get noticed by a populace that has voted like zombies for 37 (?) years. PC after PC after PC has been in power, and we just got rid of the bloated Ralph Klein who everyone wrongly credits for bringing Alberta out of debt. Sorry people, that was the out-of-country companies raping our...

Calgary-Currie is one of the key seats in serious play in this city during this election. The Alberta Tories lost the seat during Ralph Klein's derelictive campaign in 2004. John Lord was bested by Dave Taylor by a little over 500 votes. The Green's Kim Warnke came in third place with 810 votes. Arthur Kent, the [...]
