The government of British Columbia has continuously downplayed the costs of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games to the taxpayers of the province. They have emphasized the economic importance to the Games in face of any opposition to their spending. Indeed, the government has been careful to omit any indirect expenses arising from hosting of the Olympics, including transportation upgrades and highway improvements....

Two recent polls indicate the BC NDP has passed the provincial Liberals in support, after a slew of extremely unpopular decisions by the Gordon Campbell government. There was the $2.8 billion deficit which Mr. Campbell promised would be no more than $495 million just after the 2009 May election. Then came the unilateral implementation of the HST, which has proven to be very controversial as well....
