After Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty "locked out" the Ontario public by refusing calls for public hearings on the HST, the Hudak Tories called attention to the issue by staging a walkout at the Ontario Legislature during Question Period yesterday.Kinda frames the debate quite well I think... a McGuinty Lockout, vs. a Hudak Walkout. Cudos again to Hudak & Co. for keeping the public's...

Michael Ignatieff is fast becoming the Sir Galahad of Canadian politics, noted for fighting wrong-doers on the government side of the House of Commons with the simple sword of truth and the trusty shield of fair play. From the Omar Khadr affair to the detainees issue, the Liberal leader has taken the moral high ground and portrayed the Conservatives as unscrupulous. Unfortunately for him, the polls...

In boring and sensible Ontario, the masses are getting angry: Premier Dalton McGuinty has certainly come up with a novel way of selling his 13% Harmonized Sales Tax to Ontarians, coming everywhere July 1. His messaging appears to be: "You're...

In its zeal to be seen as both tough-minded and socially aware, the government of Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has a habit of overstepping itself when introducing new measures on high-profile legal issues. Responding to a public campaign after a well-publicized drunk-driving accident that killed three young people, the government declared that teen drivers would no longer be allowed to carry more...

From a colleague at our Maclean’s Toronto headquarters: “[Another colleague] just called from her place in the flu line at Metro Hall. Eight over from her is Dalton McGuinty. Also waiting. “No press, no aides, just one guy who looks like security. “She thought someone ought to know.”

Dalton McGuinty, the premier for Ontario, says there is no need to hold public hearings on his plan to harmonize the provincial sales tax with the federal GST in July of 2010, because voters will be able vote on the subject in the 2011 provincial election. Does anyone else have any trouble with that math? The Liberals don’t care that Ontarians will have no say on the matter, because by the time...

There can be little doubt that almost everyone saw David Brown’s lawsuit coming a mile away. Any Canadian listening to the Caledonia man’s harrowing, shocking testimony before Ontario superior court judge Thomas Bielby this week, would have done the same in his shoes. Brown says he was threatened, harassed, vandalized, intimidated, and generally driven to the brink by the Mohawk "warriors"...

This week in Hamilton, Ont., a court is hearing a civil suit against the Ontario government and police. The testimony has shed light on just how cack-handed and cowardly the handling of the Caledonia siege has been by provincial officials. The $7-million lawsuit that is at the centre of the Hamilton trial was brought by Dave Brown and his family, whose home is bordered on two sides by the former Douglas...

I went for a physical a few weeks ago and was given a PSA test. Today I received a $30.00 bill for for it. Thirty dollars is no big deal, but in his 2007 election campaign Dalton McGuinty promised to cover the cost of Prostate Specific Antigen tests for men 50 years of age and older in the interest of early detection. However, in December 2008, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced in...

Cross-country tour A fossilized separatist in Quebec, a scrambling premier in Ontario, and RCMP-related shenanigans in British Columbia. The National Post 's John Ivison explains how and why Dalton McGuinty's Teflon coating may finally be wearing off, which is something we've been dying to see. It's just unfortunate we can't muster any enthusiasm whatsoever for Tim Hudak — and neither, polls...

...vote for him... The effect of earlier confrontations with natives -- particularly at Ipperwash and Oka, was to terrify Ontario's government into a state of near paralysis. Premier Dalton McGuinty is a man heavily disposed towards confrontation avoidance. His solution to potential conflict is often to try and buy off the other party, with juicier employment contracts , for instance, or, as in this...
