When companies and scientists wish to see the world's leading carbon storage initiative first-hand, they travel to Weyburn, Sask. And clean-coal technology being developed in Estevan, Sask., will increasingly play a critical role in reducing emissions globally. At a time when we need greenhouse-gas reduction solutions that don't damage the economy or drive up consumers' energy costs, Saskatchewan is...

Our son Alex turns 29 today. Hard to believe. I still remember the day he was born in Estevan Saskatchewan. Of course since he chose the longest day of the year to make his entrance into the world those daylight hours went on and on. I am so proud of Alex. He's a terrific husband and father. We delight in every story of how he is such an amazing Dad to his 2 sons -- soon to be 2 sons and 1 daughter....

I took a day off work, and went on a trip to Estevan that the UofR put on, so I saw the SaskPower Boundary Dam coal fired electricity plant from the outside, and the inside of a test CO(2) capture facility. Unfortunately it’s just a test, and only separates out 4 tons a day, when we [...]

"Dirt from the Stands" by Greg Cybulski News From Saskatchewan Well race fans, if there is anything that warms this reporter's heart, it's seeing healthy growth in Prairie Dirt country. That is what you will find at southeast Saskatchewan's premier dirt track facility, Estevan Motor Speedway in 2008. So I esteemed PM was in the province yesterday prompting the 200 odd million dollars earmarked in the last federal budget for CO2 sequestration down Estevan way. Along for the ride was his new bestest pal Premier Wall.Watching the news report last night (CTV Saskatoon, 6pm) I was surprised, okay only a little bit, to hear our Premier completely gloss over the stark statistic that Saskatchewan derives...

After a recent wagon ride in Calgary to announce the next Virgin Festival, record company founder and kazillionaire Sir Richard Branson is giving Canada another major event: an environmentally-themed concert called Flick-Fest - and it's happening in the bustling metropolis of Estevan, Saskatchewan . "Humanity's window to act on climate change is narrowing," said Branson in a press release. "And it's...

The place that I grew up at on Holmgren Bay in Estevan, Saskatchewan has now been sold. Estevan, an area rich is natural resources, is booming right now. There is a lack of housing now so the sale was very quick. Mom and Dad will be moving out to condo life on the west coat of Canada taking new roots in Kelowna, B.C. For Mom and Dad this will mean a warmer climate, the end of yard maintenance and...

I watched “Disturbia” [8/10] with my pal Jesse, and we weren't scared a bit. Well actually, it was a pretty intense movie, so I’d recommend it. It made shopping in the grocery store a little ominous after. The temperature is a touch hot tonight, and without any A/C here I’ll be roasting in my own [...]

I had the best pizza on the planet today at the Tower Cafe in Estevan, Saskatchewan. I think I eat two of these pizzas (not in the same evening) whenever I come and visit. Today it was at lunch with two old friends, Kevin Toombs and Kim Empey. Our pizza was the Tower Special which has mushrooms, pepperonis, ham, green peppers, and pineapple on it. The sauce is a little spicy and there is plenty of...

You can't beat Saskatchewan sunsets! I took this last night as we were coming in from an evening of fishing on Rafferty Dam . Really nice evening, 90+ degrees outside and the water was smooth as glass. More photos over on my Flickr site . It has been a lot of fun hanging out with old friends here in Estevan. I think we'll stay for awhile.

This year I'll celebrate eleven years at Microsoft. In September of 1996 I maxed out a credit card to relocate from Estevan, Saskatchewan to Redmond, Washington joining up with Microsoft as a contractor. As a contractor I didn't qualify for relocation benefits, but I figured it was a worthy risk :-). My first job was to support the beta of Active Server Pages along with Internet Studio. Later on I...
