The Prime Minister was in no mood for jokes. Here it was, just two weeks after Elections Canada officials, flanked by RCMP officers in blue flak jackets, had arrived at his party's Ottawa headquarters armed with a search warrant and the Bloc Quebecois had the gall to ask that Parliament give the agency a formal vote of confidence. ... boldest move came 18 months ago, when he hijacked the Quebec nation debate from an unsuspecting Bloc Québécois and had Parliament endorse a resolution on the issue. That neutralized the most potent rhetorical weapon in the sovereignist arsenal – the argument that the rest of Canada was determined to negate Quebec's distinct identity. Harper has been pushing the envelope ever since....

gabby noticed my blog and the blog of Trusty Tory were quoted on radio Canada. We were both denouncing the doofus gilles Duceppe. So the reporter quoted Paul Wells, Dr Roy and trusty Tory as conservative bloggers. Paul Wells is conservative? Anonymous Gabby in QC said Off Topic, but I'm sure you'd be interested to know that your blog was mentioned in the Rad-Can political analysis show...

... every conceivable scrap of dirt to slander the Conservatives. Look at the Bernier fiasco. We have Gilles Duceppe looking like a pawn , and what are the real charges? That a cabinet minister had the bad taste to date someone who had formerly gone out with a rough character. Note he isn't married to her, he dated her. And she didn't marry the rough character, she just went out with...

The latest poll said the Conservatives had the support of 35 per cent of those surveyed, compared to 32 per cent for the Liberals, 14 per cent for the NDP and nine per cent for the Green party. Libs up 3, Tories 1 from a week ago . Don't know really what to make of the Quebec numbers: Within Quebec, the Bloc Quebecois was at 37 per cent, well ahead of the Conservatives at 24 per cent...

An unnamed source has provided me with some details into what immediately triggered the media's interest in the Maxime Bernier story. It is very strange. It's like the cue to start the attack came during a media scrum. As you know, Conservative Maxime Bernier , the Foreign Affairs Minister, is under attack because his former girlfriend was once married to a notorious Quebec biker. What is more interesting...

The story behind the story of Maxime Bernier's former girlfriend is a lot more interesting (though perhaps less salacious) than the story itself, that being demands from the opposition that Bernier resign over the fact that his former girlfriend was once married to a notorious Quebec biker. Apparently, the media did not break this story. The media had known about it for some time, but realized there...

... called for him to be fired. The Conservatives launched a pre-emptive attack on the Liberals and the Bloc Québécois. Prime Minister Stephen Harper called the opposition "quite a group of gossipy old busybodies." But the government was on the defensive all day."This is about my private life, the private life in the past of my ex-girlfriend," Bernier, 45, said in the Commons, responding...

"I hear that one of my cabinet ministers has an ex-girlfriend," Harper told a throng of reporters. "It's none of my business. It's none of Mr. (Gilles) Duceppe's business. None of Mr. (Stéphane) Dion's business. Mr. Duceppe and Mr. Dion are quite a group of gossipy old busy bodies."

Gilles Duceppe in a fit of rage yesterday called the Monarchy ridiculous. He was upset that Canadians are celebrating the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec city with their French Canadian brothers and sisters. Our monarchical system extends back to the kings of France. Duceppe and his party are useless. Their only goal is to sow dissension and pad their federal pensions. duceppe is just waiting...
