Queen Meets Hackney Teens - in Turkey

You can't blame the Queen for not visiting East London very often. You can't get the tube there from Buck House for starters, and since the Number 8 went 'bendy' the Corgis won't get on it. But this week she went to the remarkable length of flying to Istanbul to meet a group of teenagers from Hackney. To be fair, she was on a visit to Turkey anyway. But she spent the day meeting pupils from...

'Criticism of Israel' is daubed on Synagogue walls in Hackney, London

... were yesterday confronted with slogans such as "Jihad to Israel" and "Jihad to Tel Aviv". Hackney council is removing the graffiti, which consisted of 40 pieces of writing. David Greenwald, 20, who visits the Chasidey Belz Beth Hemedrash synagogue in Clapton Common, said the close-knit community was shocked. "This morning I went to synagogue to pray and saw the writing all over everywhere...

Jonathan Swift visits London, Paris, and New York

As one of the governors of the city's hackney coaches, carts, and carriages, [Swift] enjoyed preferential treatment by the coachmen of Dublin, but this pleasure, along with his delight in evening walking, had to be curtailed because of dizziness. Swift nevertheless continued to regard the liberty of St Patrick’s (a precinct independent of the archbishop’s [...]

UK: A man who was stabbed to death in Oxford Street this week was facing charges of raping a 16-year-old girl and chemically burning her afterwards to hide the crime, it was revealed yesterday. Don't Despair Kids!

Despairing at more Hackney teen-aged violence - and yet wondering if maybe, just maybe there might be some twisted justice in the world after all? Wondering if your home’s going to be repossessed or you're going to be able to put food on the table AND pay your bills? I can't fix it, but some people in [...]

FECKLESS? Joe HACKNEY is FECKLESS?

Stan, you apparently can't distinguish "feckless" from its polar opposite. Joe Hackney, who is probably one of the finest, smartest and most honest men we've ever had the fortune to have in elected office in North Carolina, gave a straight answer instead of a dodge. He's absolutely right. If you don't want to hear a truthful answer, don't ask Joe a question.

If something's good for the public at large...

then the public at large ought to be willing to pay for it....rather than foisting the cost onto some smaller segment of the population. Comments by Mr. Hackney quoted in our paper today indicate that because this is "an election year" there probably won't be any new taxes. So, I suppose worrying about their electability will take priority over both legitimate needs and equitable taxation....

Speaker Hackney Gets It Right

Last week voters across North Carolina soundly defeated hikes in the land transfer tax and sales tax. At least one elected official — Orange County Commission Chairman Barry Jacobs — seems downright ticked off about it. Last week, Jacobs told WRAL TV that, “Nobody likes to lose, and nobody likes to lose to a bully.” He was lashing out at the real estate industry. However, House Speaker Joe Hackney...

London Fields shooting

I thought that things seemed to have been a bit quiet in Hackney recently. Anyways just when you thought that Hackney was becoming safety central there is a little news story to break the lull. On Thursday a teenager was shot in London fields and two others stabbed. It hardly made the news though (I think because no-one died!!). You can read the story though in the Hackney Gazette....

Alan Sugar? Politics? You're Fired!!! - news rage uk

I was watching BBC news this morning and I became quite excited when they announced that they would be talking with Sir Alan Sugar about his views on "Broken Britain". Now the reason I was interested was because I know that this old boy from Hackney is hugely successful in making money. He is also a credible celebrity who has maintained a colourful "no nonsense " image in the media from his early...
