A good weekend

Sunday was a great day - warm and relatively still. I rode the Hillingdon CC 25m TT on the Marlow course and recorded a time of 1:3:42. This is 3 minutes faster than my previous time this season and my fastest since 1981. It's a fast course with a 2 mile 'ski-jump start' (a fast downhill that you don't have to climb to finish) and I used the disc wheel for the first time. Together these might...

A little faster

I did an hour and twenty minutes solo at Hillingdon yesterday evening. I got caught in a hailstorm, so was not feeling at my best when the hour of group work started. However, these few days of enforced rest seem to have had a 'training effect'. My heart rate, which has been depressed for weeks, edged up towards maximum as we rode some hard through and off. As the group was depleted and the...

Where's the hill at Hillingdon?

... last bit where I tried to go for a long one on the last lap. It never works. Still, first week of Hillingdon and I actually feel like I might get out of the 4th Cats this year if I can screw my head on right and get over my fear of the bunch sprint.

No place for a small black cat

A multitude of flyers and posters have been pouring through the cat flap about the Library and Information Show I see that Roy Clare and his crew are all alive and well, and Miss Bo Peep.. and they have all been joined by Team Hillingdon.. I hope they all enjoy themselves-- it would be fun to be a mouse in the skirting, just to hear what is said. Perkins was not asked but she probably would...

Very good results from Hillingdon

The Bookseller reports this morning on the figures from Hillingdon Since this campaign for public libraries started in 1998, the message has been simple. Public libraries will be very successful if they are well stocked with books. This wasn't said out of any piety for literacy or desire to reverse the passage of time, it was a simple statement of truth borne out of experience. In the early...

Plastered at the back

The Beyond MTB Spring Crits at Hillingdon are the sort of races I have to do - a test of attrition with the 2nd Cat boys hauling along as foolhardy 4th Cats like me try to cling on to the pace. The only way I'm going to get stronger is by getting out of my comfortable "pootling in the 4th Cats" box and pushing my limits in 2/3/4 races. 32 laps of Hillingdon goes by pretty quickly so I'm...

Hillingdon

A message today reveals that we are about to hear excellent news from Hillingdon where the performance of the library relaunched in October continues to outshine all other libraries in the country.. all those who kept saying nasty things about the project and those who worked on it had better hide behind the sand dunes
